Many organizations spend a great deal of time and money creating surveys to collect data. Without properly worded questions, however, the survey could yield irrelevant or inconclusive results, rendering it useless. In this workshop, you will learn some critical tips for creating a smarter, more powerful survey. Some of the topics we will explore are identifying objectives, crafting effective questions, distribution methods, and analysis of responses. We will view samples of surveys and explore resources available for use in creating our own questionnaires.

“IM? That is SO 2004!” Are you stuck in the past? Stay ahead of the curve with Twitter! Twitter is a free social networking tool, allowing you to stay connected with people in “real time”. Unlike IM, Twitter allows you to post quick notes and read other users’ updates without the intrusive feel of an IM. In this workshop, we will learn more about Twitter and how millions of people are using it to keep up-to-date with their friends and colleagues. We will also discuss its uses in the library. For this course, you may create a twitter account in advance, by going to http://www.twitter.com. If you do not wish to create an account, but still wish to participate in the workshop, please contact me.

"Collection management/preservation" encompasses those procedures that keep materials usable and available for patrons to consult. Many mends and repairs currently perpetrated on damaged library materials actually shorten their lives. Proper repairs can not only extend the life of books, but they can do so while keeping them good looking. This session will focus on reattaching loose covers and pamphlet bindings -- all operations that can be performed in a normal library setting. This is a hands-on session aimed at the persons who will actually be performing the repairs AND who have already attended Getting It Right I.
