Grieving is a process of learning how to live in a changed world. When someone we love has died, or a relationship has ended, we are challenged to relearn how to be with ourselves, our families and our friends. We are faced with coping and managing painful feelings, and creating new systems of meaning that allow us to live with joy and purpose in spite of our losses.  Meeting with other bereaved individuals who are coping with similar life circumstances helps to reduce isolation and increase hopefulness.

VNAHG Bereavement Support Group meets the SECOND and FOURTH Monday of each month, February through April, 2017 from 11:00 to 12:00 PM.  If you have any questions, please call Janet Freed at 845-642-0935, Chaplain and Bereavement Counselor, VNA Hospice.

This cherished contemporary classic of Nigerian literature tells two intertwining stories, both centering on Okonkwo, a “strong man” of an Ibo village. The first, a powerful fable of the immemorial conflict between the individual and society, traces Okonkwo’s fall from grace with the tribal world. The second, as modern as the first is ancient, concerns the clash of cultures and the destruction of Okonkwo's world with the arrival of aggressive European missionaries.

In the middle of tending to the everyday business at her vintage clothing shop and sidestepping her married boyfriend's attempts at commitment, Iris Lockhart receives a stunning phone call: Her great-aunt Esme, whom she never knew existed, is being released from Cauldstone Hospital—where she has been locked away for over sixty years.

Iris’s grandmother Kitty always claimed to be an only child. But Esme’s papers prove she is Kitty’s sister, and Iris can see the shadow of her dead father in Esme’s face. Esme has been labeled harmless—sane enough to coexist with the rest of the world. But Esme’s still basically a stranger, a family member never mentioned by the family, and one who is sure to bring life-altering secrets with her when she leaves the ward. If Iris takes her in, what dangerous truths might she inherit?

Maggie O’Farrell’s intricate tale of family secrets, lost lives, and the freedom brought by truth will haunt readers long past its final page.

When Anne Morrow, a shy college senior with hidden literary aspirations, travels to Mexico City to spend Christmas with her family, she meets Colonel Charles Lindbergh, fresh off his celebrated 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic. Enthralled by Charles’s assurance and fame, Anne is certain the aviator has scarcely noticed her. But she is wrong. Charles sees in Anne a kindred spirit, a fellow adventurer, and her world will be changed forever. The two marry in a headline-making wedding. In the years that follow, Anne becomes the first licensed female glider pilot in the United States. But despite this and other major achievements, she is viewed merely as the aviator’s wife. The fairy-tale life she once longed for will bring heartbreak and hardships, ultimately pushing her to reconcile her need for love and her desire for independence, and to embrace, at last, life’s infinite possibilities for change and happiness.

This book discussion will be moderated by Colts Neck Librarian Stephanie Laurino. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend, however registration is preferred. Stop by or call the library to reserve your copy of the book today.

The Paris Architect: a novel by Charles Belfourne

In 1942 Paris, gifted architect Lucien Bernard accepts a commission that will bring him a great deal of money - and maybe get him killed.  But if he's clever enough, he'll avoid any trouble.  All he has to do is design a secret hiding place for a wealthy Jewish man, a space so invisible that even the most determined German officier won't find it.  He sorely needs the money, and outwitting the Nazis who have occupied his beloved city is a challenge he can't resist.

This workshop will focus on current high school students and their families.  Did you know that the average family borrows 39% of the total cost of college? and that two thirds of college graduates leave school with financial debt?

Attend this workshop and you will learn: how to maximize your potential for financial aid; how to lower your 'out-of-pocket' costs; why the FAFSA and your EFC are so critical to the college financial aid process; and how the ACT/SAT scores translate into financial aid dollars.

It is important to look at these issues NOW, before your student heads off to college.
