A Day in the Life of a Quaranteen - Submit an article for Volunteer Hours!

|
|
An ongoing event, A Day in the Life of a Quaranteen asks for a written documentary of your life during the COVID-19 pandemic. Entries can be essays, poems, journal entries, or written song describing your life, thoughts, and feelings about COVID-19. One to two submissions will be displayed in our quarterly teen newsletter. One volunteer hour is possible per article for participants. Your article will need to be approved by a library staff member before you will be given service hours. Articles need to follow the guidelines to be approved, and may be sent back to you if anything is missing.
Age: Must be between grades 7-12
Library Card: Must have a valid Monmouth County Library Card.
Service Hours Given: 1 hour per article submission upon library approval.
Limit of two submissions per person.
Submission: Please submit your article through this Google Form.
Attention Parent/Guardian: It is highly recommended that your teen is responsible for all correspondence regarding the Teen Volunteer Program; starting with the review submission process and continuing throughout their volunteer service. This program strives to prepare your child for his/her first job. We feel that the more responsibility that volunteers have in the successful execution of completing their service, the better prepared he or she will be to apply for jobs and enter the workforce. When at all possible, please ask your teen to call, email, organize, and initiate! Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Photographer Mae-Lin Tang is a Monmouth County native and local who does photography as a personal hobby. After purchasing her camera in 2017 for a trip to London, the rest is history. Mae-Lin is a beloved staff member of Monmouth County Library.
Most of Mae-Lin's photography centers around:
- Food - either her cooking or other delicious things
- Nature - from her garden, local nature, or parks/gardens
- Still Life - the house life, daytime adventures, attending things and events
- Hummingbirds - quick visitors obsessed with sugar water
- Animals - only when she's able to grab her camera in time before they run away
All of the photographs in the exhibit were taken with a Sony Alpha A6000 at the opportune moments, edited in Adobe Lightroom. The favored lenses are the Sigma 56mm/f/1.4 prime lens, and the Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 lens.
More photography and other pictures can be viewed on her Instagram @Littledragonmeiling
The exhibit is on display in the Eastern Branch's Library Lobby display cases through January 30th.

Raconteur Radio Presents THE HOBBIT: A Virtual Radio Play -
"attend" this theatrical performance by clicking on the link on our webpage: MonmouthCountyLib.org
One day, in the early 1930s, the English philologist and university professor, J.R.R. Tolkien, found a blank page and, suddenly inspired, wrote the words, "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit." And so began one of the world's most beloved books. This fireside performance features Jane Smith as furry-footed filcher Bilbo Baggins; Michael Jarmus as wandering wizard Gandalf the Gray, ring-corrupted river hobbit Gollum the Green, and fearsome fire drake Smaug the Golden: and Alex Dawson as dwarf doyen ThorinOakenshield, son of Thrain, and assorted other characters (plus sound effects).
Innovative and entertaining, RACONTEUR RADIO performs theatrical presentations of vintage radio plays, classic works of literature, and pop culture parodies for audiences throughout the Tri-State area. For the foreseeable future, their live presentations will be presented virtually. The radio plays are being recorded via a video meeting platform, and then shared before a real time Q&A with Raconteur Radio founder/artistic director Alex Dawson.
Register to MEET DIRECTOR ALEX DAWSON on Wednesday, January 27, 6:30pm (VIA ZOOM)
