This month the Bacon Free Library and the Morse Institute Library Comic Book Club will read and discuss Alice in Sunderland by Bryan Talbot. Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking Glass (1872) have had an immeasurable impact on children's literature and, indeed, the entire spectrum of popular entertainment, with Carroll's absurdist wordplay and surreal scenarios inspiring artistic visionaries from Salvador Dali to John Lennon. Such interesting literary tidbits as those abound in Talbot's lavishly illustrated graphic "entertainment" tracing the historical and cultural influences behind Carroll's masterpieces.

Comic Book Group meets on the second Thursday of each month. Copies of this month's title will be available at the Bacon Free Library and the Morse Institute Library. Refreshments will be served. For more information contact Dave Bartos at 508-647-6521 or Meena Jain at 508-653-6730.

The Comic Book Group will meet this month at Bacon Free Library (58 Eliot St. Natick, MA)

This month the Bacon Free Library and the Morse Institute Library Comic Book Club will read and discuss The Mighty Thor by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman. When the classic Thor is no longer righteous enough to wield his hero-making mallet, the only person worthy enough to take up the mantle is ... well, you don't find out in this volume. But the point is that it's a lady, and she's every bit up to the task. Marvel stalwart Aaron ensures that there's enough humor and scrappy personality to offset all the standard trappings. Dauterman's majestic, gleaming figures, meanwhile, smash through intricately imagined fantasy environments.

Comic Book Group meets on the second Thursday of each month. Copies of this month's title will be available at the Bacon Free Library and the Morse Institute Library. Refreshments will be served. For more information contact Dave Bartos at 508-647-6521 or Meena Jain at 508-653-6730.

In conjunction with the Bacon Free Library, we're celebrating the Bicentennial of the birth of Henry David Thoreau. We' re going to meet at Walden Woods (44 Baker Farm Road, Lincoln, MA) and have a private tour of Thoreau's Library. This is a session with the Walden Woods Project's Curator of Collections, author and Thoreau scholar, Jeffrey S. Cramer, in the Thoreau Institute Library. The library maintains the most comprehensive body of Thoreau-related material available in one place. Mr. Cramer will provide an introduction to Thoreau and the era in which he lived, and will discuss Thoreau's life and writings as they relate to historical items on display in the library.

Then, we will visit the iconic place that has become synonymous with Thoreau - Walden Pond. Taking place at the Walden Pond State Reservation (WPSR), these visits usually being at the to-scale replica of Thoreau's Walden house, which stands near the brand new, LEED-certified Walden Pond Visitors' Center. About 1/3 of the way around the Pond, we visit the original site of Thoreau's house. If we have enough time, we'll walk all the way around the Pond.

The event is free but attendees will need to pay $8/car for parking.

Space is limited and Registration is required using the link below.
