Join us for Scenes from Paradise: Mosaic Making with Emily Petchet as part of our Fall Art series.

Mosaic making workshop (for adults) who want to learn about this beautiful and ancient technique.

Mosaic art is the assemblage of colored rocks and stones glued together to create a story, pattern or decorative image. This class will look at the mosaics from the Roman Ghetto, the Greek Quarter of Athens and the Mosaic art of Mount Masada. They will learn why and how Mosaic art is a part of history - past and present along with color theory, proper gluing, design and layout. Students will be introduced to a wide variety of materials (stones, tile and paste papers) and will complete one project during the workshop duration, exploring both traditional and contemporary techniques. Students are encouraged to experiment with colors and texture to begin to discover the possibilities of mosaic. By the end of the workshop patrons will have a beautiful mosaic to take home and display. Come experience the endless possibilities of this art form. All supplies provided. Please bring an apron and “dress” for art making. If you like, bring your own small rocks, shells and soft-edge pieces of glass/broken china parts -encouraged.

The Customer is Always Wrong by Mimi PondThis month the Library Comic Book Club will read and discuss The Customer is Always Wrong by Mimi Pond. Oakland in the late seventies is a cheap and quirky haven for eccentrics and Mimi Pond folds the tales of the fascinating sleaze-ball characters that surround young Madge into her workaday waitressing life. Outrageous and loving tributes and takedowns of her co-workers and satellites of the Imperial Cafe create a snapshot of a time in Madge’s life where she encounters who she is, and who she is not.

Comic Book Group meets on the second Thursday of each month. Copies of this month's title will be available at the main desk. Refreshments will be served. For more information contact Dave Bartos at 508-647-6521.
