misc_none 3:00 PM  -  4:15 PM Concert: Jacqueline Schwab & Emily O'Brien     Tell a Friend

Jacqueline Schwab, piano and Emily O'Brien, recorder, will perform a mixture of classical music and improvised arrangements of traditional music, generally centering around French and English music from the turn of the 20th century and featuring a scintillating York Bowen Sonatina for Recorder and Piano (think Debussy meets Gershwin) as the centerpiece, with Gershwin, French and Latin waltzes, spirituals, novelty piano ("Nola") and other pieces working with the musical style.

This concert is free to all and appropriate for all ages. For more information please call 508-647-6520.

Tolkien Reading Day: The HobbitEnjoy an afternoon of magic and myth with Tolkien Reading Day on Saturday, March 25 at 1:00pm! This is an annual event to celebrate the life and work of J. R. R. Tolkien. The library will host a reading day event for the whole family. Our library staff will be reading aloud selections from The Hobbit. "I love this book and have read it myself many times," says librarian Dave Bartos. "But it really came alive for me when I first read it aloud with my 4-year-old daughter."

We'll have copies of the book available to check out so you can continue the journey at home with your family. We'll also have crafts, food, and a Tolkien costume contest!

Morse Institute Library poetry slam

Join The Morse Institute Library for an evening of fast-paced competitive poetry! Presented by Geof Hewitt, this annual event invites local poets to the stage to share their original work for a chance to win prizes and take the title for their age category.

What is a slam?

A slam is a competitive event where poets perform their own work and are judged by the audience.

Who can slam?

If you’re ready to stand in front of an audience and read your original work, you can slam.

What are the rules?

  • Poets must arrive at 6:45 pm to register. Poets should bring two original poems that can be performed in 3 minutes or less.
  • This program is for all ages with two age levels of competition: Dr. Seuss, age 14 and under, The Dickenson, ages 15 and older.
  • Poems must be appropriate for all ages.
  • No registration required for audience participation.

Will there be prizes?

A 1st place prize will be awarded for each age category. Every participant will receive a certificate of participation.

For more information contact the library at 508-647-6520 or email kperkins@minlib.net.
