This month's book choice:  Mercy Watson: Princess in Disguise

When the Watsons decide to zip their porcine wonder into a formfitting princess dress for Halloween – complete with tiara – they are certain that Mercy will be beautiful beyond compare. Mercy is equally certain she likes the sound of trick-or-treating and can picture piles of buttered toast already. As for the Lincoln Sisters next door, how could they know that their cat would lead them all on a Halloween "parade" of hysterical proportions? Kate DiCamillo’s beguiling pig is back in a tale full of treats, tricky turns, hijinks, and high humor.

QUEEN:
THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES
A Documentary
In 1971, four college students got together to form a rock band. Since then, that certain band called Queen have released 26 albums and sold over 300 million records worldwide.  In this film, for the first time, it is the band that tells their story. Featuring brand new interviews with the band and unseen archive footage (including their recently unearthed, first ever TV performance), it is a compelling story told with intelligence, wit, plenty of humor and painful honesty

A look into the past of Hopkinton’s Canonchet Village
with Richard Prescott

The village of Canonchet in Hopkinton is home to hundreds of ceremonial stone groupings call “Manitou Hassannash” which were left by the ancient ancestors of today’s people of indigenous heritage.   Richard Prescott, President of the Hopkinton Historical Association, spent his youth wandering over the Canonchet area, and studying these stone works.  In this presentation he will show the some of the stone works that still exists in the area. He also will discuss his understanding of spiritual practices that took place long before Europeans settled in what became America. The concepts of balance embodied in these long ago spiritual practices are as relevant today as they were to the indigenous people who depicted them in stone long, long ago. This program is offered in conjunction with the Narragansett Historical Society.
