Rebecca Rule will return to lead a discussion of Jennifer Haigh’s second novel, Baker Towers. It was in this book that Haigh first wrote about the fictional town of Bakerton, Pennsylvania, the setting for Heat and Light. Baker Towers follows a family in the years after World War II from their home in the coal-mining town, to Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. The Chicago Tribune called the book “a song of praise for a too-little-praised part of America, for the working families whose toils and constancy have done so much to make the country great.” Cosponsored by the Rivier Institute of Senior Education (RISE).
