    Tuesday Evening Romance Book Group To be held on the first Tuesday of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Contrary to popular opinion all romance books aren’t alike, though they do follow the basic “boy meets girl” plot there’s plenty of room for variety. The plots and characters can vary as much as any mystery novel. Just imagine a tree with many branches growing in lots of different directions, these are the subgenres we are going to read and discuss. This month's title will be Humerous Romance: Maneater by Gigi Levangie Grazies

Country Girl: A Memoir by Edna O'Brien
Starting with O'Brien's birth in a grand but deteriorating house in Ireland, her story moves through convent school to elopement, divorce, single-motherhood, the wild parties of the '60s in London, and encounters with pop stars, and literary titans. This memoir is a rich account of one remarkable Irish literary life.

* Art Scavenger Hunt (Objects in the Children's Room Only)Turn in your completed sheet and get a ticket for our art prize raffle.

* Visit our craft table to make a loom bracelet, a Kandinsky circle or a paper tube craft.

* Checkout a Sylvan Dell Book from our display or attend an art class and get a ticket for the art prize raffle.

*Has anyone in your family lost their library card? No problem! Valid only on March 8th, get a replacement card for free! Then use it to check out a book, magazine, literacy kit, music CD, DVD or a museum pass (has a discount on admission fees) funded by the Friends of the Nevins Memorial Library.

    While most notably recognized as a reporter and on-air personality for WCVB's Chronicle, Ted has recently written a book detailing some of his travels around this New England region. His book, New England Notebook, is a collection of some of the unusual spots and characters that give New England its unique flavor. Ted will speak about his book and some of his adventures on the road as a reporter in Boston. He will have books available for signing and light refreshments will be served.

    Please join us for a special evening with author Leslea Newman as she speaks about her poem cycle, "October Mourning: A song for Matthew Shepard." In October of 1998, Matthew Shepard, a gay college student was brutally beaten and murdered in Laramie, Wyoming just for being who he was. Newman's poems imagine the prospectives of the land, the fence where he was tied and left to die, the night sky, his family, and more as they witnessed the last hours of his life. Newman will speak about her work with the LGBTQ community, her experience with Matthew's story, and will read some of her poems. Books will be available for purchase and signing; refreshments will be served.

    The Nevins Library GLBT group is open to any adult (18+) who is interested in reading quality fiction, non-fiction and biography on GLBT topics and themes or by gay/lesbian authors. Book discussions are held at the Library on Thursday evenings 7-8pm. Books are available one month prior to the discussion. You may pick up books at the previous meeting, or you may get them at the Main Desk anytime the Library is open. Please bring your library card to the meeting to check books out. In the case of cancellation for bad weather or any other reason, the meeting will be held on the following Thursday evening. Cancellation information is posted on the Library’s voice mail, and announced on WCCM-Radio. Additional Book Discussion information is available on our web site at www.nevinslibrary.org . Special Event October Mourning An Author Visit with Leslea Newman
The famed author of "Heather Has Two Mommies", has written a deeply moving poetry cycle dedicated to Matthew Shepherd, and depicting his tragic death. Join us for an evening featuring a reading and book-signing by Ms. Newman. Co-sponsored by the Methuen High School Gay-Straight Alliance.

    Stop by the Nevins library to participate in a variety of reading and play activities that help support your child’s learning and language development. We will present the activities in this program using two different sized groups; everyone as one large group and in small self-paced parent/child pairs. Please register for this event.

Each child in attendance will get a free book from our community partner, the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council.
