Paul_Speidel_by_Eric_Antoniou.Join jazz/blues guitarist Paul Speidel and friend, when they will bring their interpretations of the traditional styles to the stage in the guitar-bass duo format. Jazz and blues are simultaneously old and new styles of music. Every time a new generation discovers the language, styles, musical forms and rhythms of old; they add their voice to the chorus of those that preceded them.

Fusion String Ensemble was formed in 2007 by a group of friends interested in performing a wide selection of repertoire through the voice of a chamber orchestra. Their music ranges from classical to contemporary with traditional and sometimes unique interpretations. Since its inception they have brought their brand of music to Boston, Montreal, Washington, D.C. and Chicago. This August they will perform at Symphony Hall in Boston. The program will include:

Simple Gifts, a Traditional Shaker Hymn arr. by Robert Frost 

Symphony No. 5 – 111. 4. Adiagetto by Gustav Mahler

Élégie, Op.24 for cello and chamber orchestra, Katherine Miller, cello

Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity (from The Planets) for Chamber Orchestra, by Gustav Holst, arr. by Abe Dewing

Chinese Dulcimer Guzheng Youth Band: Join us for a special concert in celebration of Chinese Lunar New Year 2016, the year of the Monkey. Students from the Boston Art School for Chinese Music will perform. The players will be Amy Huang, Courtney Zang and Francesca Mei (dulcimer), Laura Wang, Krystie Wong and Yuetian Zhang (guzheng). Ping Li founded the Boston Art School for Chinese Music in 2000. Since then she has taught both Chinese and American students. She has been a professional yangqin (Chinese dulcimer) and guzheng performer for almost 30 years. Info: pinglimusic.com.

Join Gabriel Chodos for an atternoon concert. Mr. Chodos has performed throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. He has been soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of Holland, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Aspen Chamber Symphony.  A winner of the Concert Artists Guild competition in New York, Mr. Chodos also received a Fulbright Scholarship, Martha Baird Rockefeller grants and a Solo Recitalist grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

By Susan WilsonCurrently making their home in Newton and Salem, MA, Boston Artists Ensemble is the recipient of grants from, among others, the National Endowment for the Arts. Jonathan Miller, cello, and Marc Ryser, piano, will perform. Cellist Jonathan Miller joined the Boston Symphony in 1971. He performs on the "ex Paganini-Piatti" Goffriller cello, built in Venice in 1700. Marc Ryser has performed as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician throughout the U.S., Canada, Switzerland and Bulgaria.
