During programs for preschool or early elementary age levels, Pinto starts the program by reading Veda’s Victory, a book by Allison Avalon about a shy girl learning to hula hoop and finding her place in the world. After some brief hula hooping instructions, demonstration, and a short performance of where Hoop Dance can take a performer, the group gets to try hula hooping themselves, while Pinto Bella walks around to give one on one instruction, trouble shooting, and help with new tricks. After the group has all had opportunities to play and hoop around, we take some time for organized games that teach team work and communication with the hoop!  For ages 5 and up.

Want to learn to code?  CodeCampKidz is sponsoring “an introduction to coding apps” class that will take kids with NO experience and work toward building skills and self-confidence by enabling them to create their own basic app pages with text, graphics, videos, and more. They will use a student-friendly eLearning platform to build projects, and step by step, produce completed app pages.  By the end, students will have developed a coding space in which to work, and host pages for public display, if they so choose. For kids in grades 6-7.  All online components are provided in audio, so kids must provide their own headset/earbuds.  Online registration (required) begins on Thursday, June 16th. The class will meet on Thursdays, July 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th.  When you register, you register for ALL 4 classes at once.  Please note that on 7/14, class will end at 6:45pm.

Beethoven’s Wig breathes new life into classical music by singing witty and very funny lyrics set to masterpieces by Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and more! It stars Richard Perlmutter, who not only wrote the words to the group’s songs and is the lead singer, but also accompanies himself on piano, guitar and mandolin. The performance at the Newton Free Library will be special! Perlmutter will focus on the theme of health and fitness as it relates to music. He will share anecdotes about sporting activities, eating habits and health regimens of famous composers and performers. In addition, award-winning songwriter Perlmutter will present the world premiere on stage of an original song about food and eating well. In typical Beethoven’s Wig style it’s witty and funny. And you might learn something too!
