American Culture and Your Children is a free conversation class  about parenting for adult English Language Learners.  Learn about American parenting practices and share your own culture's ideas about child-rearing.  This class is led by a former Boston Globe parenting columnist.

Ongoing Friday morning sessions.  The class begins on Friday, September 18, 2015.

Limited to 10 students.  Online registration (required) opens on September 1, 2015. Preference will be given to new students.

The Newton Free Library provides free tutoring services for adults with limited English proficiency. Volunteer tutors are needed for this rewarding work. Just an hour a week of your time can make a real difference. No experience or foreign language ability is necessary. Tutor training workshops are offered at the Library.  Come to an informative Introductory Meeting and become an ELL Volunteer Tutor!

In this four-session workshop participants will learn the principles of acquiring a new language, how adults learn, how cross-cultural considerations affect a person's ability to adapt to new ways of saying and doing things, and a variety of ELL teaching techniques that tutors can use with their learners.

This workshop is open to new and current tutors in the Newton Free Library's ELL & Literacy program.
