Listen to all kinds of American music, from jazz and Broadway show tunes to folk songs, rap and rock and roll.  Enjoy the lyrics and talk about the meaning of the words.  Find out about the life stories of famous American singers, and see how music shapes culture. No previous knowledge of music is required.

Conversations about Travel is a free class for intermediate to advanced adult ESL learners. We will read and discuss short stories about travel and exploration by travel writers Charles Kiralt, Nellie Bly, Susan Spano and others.  We will also create a basic checklist for packing and learn to use articles, tour books, and websites to learn about places to visit.  Our focus in trip planning will be on the Northeast, but our readings will cover travel from all around the world.

We will listen to and then discuss ideas presented in short, powerful talks by inspired experts from hundreds of talks at the TED.com archives. The class will select a different topic each class, e.g. psychology, technology, music, children, self-improvement, health care, and world politics. This is a great way to listen to many different excellent English speakers, challenge your discussion skills, and expose yourself to new ideas.

9 Monday afternoon sessions.  The class begins on April 6, 2015.

Limited to 10 students.  Preference will be given to new students.

Pre-registration is required.  Online registration begins on March 30, 2015.
