The purpose of the club is to engage in thought provoking discussion centered on books with a disability theme: fiction that portrays a character with a disability, nonfiction about living with a disability and biographies, autobiographies or memoirs about living with a disability. crochetAre you an expert with knitting or crochet needles, just learning, or want to learn?  Then join us the first Thursdays of every month.  We have crochet hooks and yarn and the know-how to teach the basics of crocheting. You are welcome to bring your own project, share ideas and conversation. Refreshments will be served. Open to ages 10 and up.

American Art at the MFA is a free class for intermediate to advanced adult ESL learners. Discuss and learn about American Art from the collection at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. 

Week one - Art of Ancient Americas - Mexico and Central America
Week two - Art of Colonial America
Week three - Art of a New Country - 1800's
Week four - Art of the 1900's
Week five - American Impressionism & The Boston School

Week six - private tour of the American Wing highlights at the MFA.
Admission is free but there is a charge for parking.  Directions will be provided.

Course open only to students who did not take this class in spring 2013.

6 Monday afternoon classes.  The class begins on Monday, March 10, 2014.

Limited to 8 students. Pre-registration is required.

hunger gamesThe Hunger Games saga continues in this sequel that finds a revolution brewing as Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) take a "Victor's Tour" of the districts, and President Snow (Donald Sutherland) plots their downfall during preparations for the Quarter Quell, which only occurs every 25 years in celebration of the Capitol's victory over the districts. The film is rated PG-13, runtime 146 min. Open to ages 13 and up.

STEAMPlease join Maker-in-Residence, Kevin Osborn to learn about 3D printing and design. We’ll be designing 3D objects using free computer-aided design software and then printing them on the new 3D printer. By designing simple objects and printing them, you'll get a basic understanding of the tools both for design and 3D printing. Open to grades 6-12. Space is limited, so please register either online, by calling 617-796-1389, or emailing teens@newtonfreelibrary.net.
