This workshop is designed for all library staff that work with patrons with Asperger's Syndrome and related disorders. It will focus on understanding the social and behavioral needs of an individual with Asperger's Syndrome within the library setting by having the participants “feel” what it is like to have AS. It will include specific interventions for students and will include the best proactive systemic and individualized strategies. This workshop is also helpful for gaining a better understanding of other special needs individuals and the interventions to help them as well.

Speaker: Jean Stern, MS, Director of Children’s Services, Asperger’s Association of New England

These workshops are made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, as administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Weather note: If the Tewksbury schools are closed because of the weather, the workshop is canceled. If there is a delayed school opening, the workshop will be held at the regular scheduled time. If the Library has a delayed opening, the workshop will be held at the regular scheduled time.

As library use continues to rise and budgets are being reduced, it is important to use library statistics to justify the need for increased funding. Many internal and external sources of data are available and it is critical to be able to identify which data is relevant for a specific situation.

Statistics such as computer use, circulation, Ills, web site usage, patron visits, database usage, and program attendance are available to allow you to compare your library with peers and identify trends. We will also look at importing text files and data from other sources, creating effective graphical displays of data, and linking excel data and charts to PowerPoint presentations.

Instructor: Barbara Andrews, Andrews Consulting, Sagamore Beach MA

Have you really explored iTunes before, you know where to find the FREE stuff?
What's up with this You Tube?
Are Hulu and Joost real words?
Been in a "record" store lately?
Can you find one that's not a "big-box" store?
Newbury Comics is more about tchotchkes than CDs. Digital downloads aren't going away. Over 4+ billion(!) songs and 2+ million movies have been downloaded from Apple iTunes. iTunes is now the top music retailer in the U.S. beating the "real" physical stores like Wal-Mart, BestBuy, and Target. Netflix, fusing old (USPS) and new (internet) technology has delivered billions of DVDs. Both Netflix and Amazon.com's are providing new digital download and rental services. Your local cable company and TiVo are in on this too! And in Library-land we've got OverDrive, MyLibraryDV, and iTunes U, iTunes U K-12, with more to come... whew! This HANDS-ON workshop explores how you, your patrons, and libraries are getting their music, movies, podcasts, audiobooks, videos, games, and more!
Questions and audience participation encouraged!
