Readers' Advisory Round Table
|
|
| |
|
The R.A. Round Table meets every other month to tackle a genre that might be outside your ordinary comfort level. We'll discuss each genre's appeal and build a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars.
For this meeting the genre is Romance. The benchmark novel is a Contemporary Romance, Natural Born Charmer, by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Read a second Romance (not Contemporary) of your choice - Historical, Regency, Alternate Reality, etc. Add your thoughts to the R.A.R.T. wiki.
Everyone is welcome. Come to one or several of these round table discussions!
Facilitators are Leane Ellis (Beebe Library, Wakefield) and Nanci Milone-Hill (Nevins Library, Methuen).

Access-Ability: Including and Serving Patrons with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome at Your Library
This workshop will focus on understanding and interacting with patrons with autism spectrum disorders and their families. Cynthia Lord, author of the Newbery Honor book, RULES, and the mother of a teen with autism will begin by sharing her own family's story that led her to write RULES. She'll also speak about the general characteristics of the disability, the needs of families who have a child with autism, and she will give you techniques and strategies to help you successfully interact with and enjoy your patrons with autism. She will also talk about some of the successful library and school-based programs she has been involved in that have focused on autism and have connected children with disabilities to their peers through literature.
These workshops are made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, as administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
