The charge of MLA’s Youth Services Section (YSS) Committee is ‘to promote library service to youth; to promote the profession of youth librarianship; to further the awareness of youth within the profession as well as the community at large and to aid in implementing MLA state standards for Massachusetts Library Services for Children and Young Adults.’ But what we really do is have fun! If you would like to help create and plan workshop programs for The MLA Annual Conference and for your own YSS Spring Program, help form and manage a new Massachusetts Teen Book Award program initiative, work as a liaison to other MLA committees, or get involved with YSS, you are invited to our meetings! YSS meets once a month (currently at CMRLS) but you’re more than welcome to participate by phone when travel is not permitted. Contact Maureen Ambrosino, CMRLS Youth Services Consultant, for information about participating virtually. In case of inclement weather, check for cancellation by calling CMRLS at 508-757-4110 after 7 a.m. See the MLA calendar at http://www.masslib.org for snow dates. Hope to see you there!

    Contact: Mary Behrle   978-762-4433 x14   mary@nmrls.org
Everyone is welcome as we continue our year-long mini-genre study. The R.A. Round Table meets every other month to tackle a genre that might be outside what you ordinarily read. We'll discuss each genre's appeal and build a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars.

For this meeting the genre is Women's Lives & Relationships. The benchmark novel is Sarah Addison Allen's Garden Spells. All participants will read this. Then, select a second novel from this genre of your own choosing. We'll dissect and compare the two.

Meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of odd-numbered months. Come to one or several!

Facilitators are Leane Ellis (Beebe Library, Wakefield) and Nanci Milone-Hill (Nevins Library, Methuen).
