Join NPL staff and others who share a passion for cookbooks to discuss and sample the fares of some today’s more celebrated cookbook titles.  Copies of the selected title(s) will be available for checkout at the circulation desk weeks prior to the discussion. After we have all had a chance to peruse and perhaps sample some of the recipes at home, we will meet in the library to share our thoughts and samplings prepared from the selected title(s). Although, bringing a prepared dish is not required, it is encouraged. Registration is required.

    Contact: Sarah Ward   508-528-3380 ext. 3   sward@sailsinc.org

The Early Childhood Resource Center will be hosting Jeanine Fitzgerald for "Play: Unifying the Mind, Body, and Spirit".

Children haven't changed, childhood has. Children no longer have the freedom to explore fields and woods, or find special places. Informal games on the playground have turned into structured leagues by age 4. We now have programs with scripted teaching, computerized learning, standardized assessment, and decreased time for recess on playgrounds that have been determined to present too much risk to safety. All of these trivialize and undermine children's natural capacities for meaningful lessons learned through play. This session examines this one feature of childhood - play.

Registration will open June 13th.

    Location: NPL - Community Room
The registration period has not begun.

Alexander, King of Jesters, stars as a Medieval monk who sneaks away from the quiet abbey where he copies books and transforms himself into the Jester of Notre Dame! Featuring stunts, comedy, and music, this programs is for anyone who loves comedy and is interested in the dramatic arts.

This show is performed in Grammelot, a universal gibberish language first developed by traveling clowns and minstrels during The Middle Ages. It consists of a few real words from various languages, and lots of nonsense sounds in between.  Grammelot cut through the many language barriers that existed back in those days of isolated villages and hamlets. It serves Alex today, as he often works abroad.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Norfolk Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

With this year being a presidential election year, let's
revisit one of the most exciting elections in American
history.  The 1948 “whistle-stop” election was the first
presidential election after the war and the first since
Roosevelt’s death.  The election of 1948 still commands
the imagination of the nation.  A feisty Truman ran and
won a fabled upset victory over Governor Thomas Dewey.
On the morning after the election, a grinning Truman held
over his head for all to see the headline of the Chicago
Tribune “Dewey Defeats Truman.”
