LABYRINTH OF LIES-A Drama from Germany (123 min) In Germany, in 1958, “Auschwitz” was a place that nobody had heard of, or others that wanted to quickly forget.  A young prosecutor, Johann Radmann, wants to try a case that is more than just a parking ticket. A case of a school teacher who has been identified as a former Auschwitz guard has been brought to the prosecutor’s office.  No one wants to touch it except Radmann.  What Radmann doesn’t know is that this will open a whole can of worms, where many adults were complicit in the Nazi atrocities, but wish it to be forgotten.  It had nearly worked.  Once Radmann learns to what extent the Nazi’s tortured the Jewish people, he became obsessed with prosecuting everyone that was involved, only to learn that he couldn’t prosecute everyone.  He had to learn that it wasn’t possible, but what was the solution? This movie is based upon the Frankfort Auschwitz Trials, which made the German people come to terms with what they had done in the past.  So come join us. No reservation required.  Refreshments

will be served.

The Ancestor Deep-Dive: How You Can Find Out Everything There Possibly is to Know About Your Ancestor This talk, presented by Tammy Hepps, will teach a methodology for creating a research plan centered around the discoveries we want to make, not the pathways we think are available for getting there. The presentation will start with how to brainstorm what we want to know, and conclude with how to work backwards to determine what sources might contain the elusive information. Ms. Hepps, from New York City, has presented at national conferences, including RootsTech 2015, and is a member of several genealogy society boards and advisory committees. Meeting are free and open to the public.

This month our travel program will take us to Northern Italy, where we’ll tour the cities of Padua, Verona, Ravenna and the Italian Riviera.  The sites we’ll see include one of Europe’s oldest universities in Padua where Galileo was professor.  The university includes the oldest anatomical theatre in the world.  In Verona, we’ll visit the home of Juliet as well as an ancient Roman ampitheatre.  Ravenna is famous for its Byzantine mosaics. The Italian Riviera may not be known for its beaches but for its town perched in ravines overlooking the sea with hills and slopes of terraced olive trees surrounding each town. So come join us.   TAXI-A Drama from Iran (81 min)-Imprisoned for three months and banned from making pictures for 20 years.  Jafar Panahi has made three films since, this is his first from outside his apartment. Previously he has made critically acclaimed films such as: The Circle, The White Balloon and Offside.  While making the film, he did not violate any of the provisions set out in the ban, such as directing, scripting or staging.  In this film, he pretends to be an out of work “director” who picks up “passengers” that talk/discuss everyday things in Iran. How much of this is “scripted” is left for the audience to decide. From these everyday things you learn how hard it is for a filmmaker in Iran to make a “realistic” and yet “distributable” film, according to Iranian standards. There are many touches of humor in the film. There are no credits listed for fear of what the authorities would do to them. Winner of five awards and five nominations including the Winner of the Berlin International Film Festival for best picture and for great personal and artistic bravery.  Join us. No reservation required.  Refreshments will be served.

Are you approaching your 65th birthday? Or maybe you are over 65 and thinking about retiring. If so, it's time to think about Medicare, get the facts, and make some decisions. In this educational presentation, you will learn about Medicare “Parts,” how much Medicare costs, what choices you have with Medicare, as well as when you should enroll.  This program is presented by Patricia Spahr, an independent health plan agent. Patricia will explain the Medicare program and important time frames for enrolling. She will also describe the various supplemental, Medicare Advantage, and prescription drug insurance options that are available in our area. She will help you think about important concerns that you should consider when choosing a plan, but will not recommend any one plan over another. Bring your questions and become informed! Registration is required for this adult program.  MUSTANG-A Drama from France/Turkey (97 min)-One summer day five orphaned sisters are out swimming.  They are out playing “chicken” with some boys. When one of their neighbors see them, they are shocked by their “lewd and illicit” carrying on with the boys.  The girls live with their grandmother and uncle, who don’t understand the girls “western” ways.  Village gossip now paints the sisters as harlots.  Their guardians little by little take away their freedom such as cell phones, internet, going to school.  The guardians then take them out of school so they can be taught how to be good housewives in order to be married.   Mustang becomes a study of what is like in a suppressed society where repression breeds rebellion.  The first time woman director questions society’s most fundamental assumptions – that women are responsible for men’s urges. This movie has won 29 awards and nominated for 42 others including an Academy Award for best picture.  So come join us. No reservation required. Refreshments will be served.

During this six week program, caregivers will develop a wealth of self-care tools to: reduce personal stress; change negative self-talk; communicate their needs to family members and healthcare or service providers; communicate more effectively in challenging situations; recognize the messages in their emotions, deal with difficult feelings; and make tough caregiving decisions.

This course will be led by Kelly Covone-Henning, Aging Educator and Community Resource Coordinator at the
