How Zumba® works: We take the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Super effective? Check. Super fun? Check and check.

In this reimagining of the classic collection of stories by Rudyard Kipling, director Jon Favreau uses visually stunning CGI to create the community of animals surrounding Mowgli (Neel Sethi), a human boy adopted by a pack of wolves. The appearance of a villainous tiger named Shere Khan (voiced byIdris Elba) forces Mowgli's guardian, the panther Bagheera (Ben Kingsley), to shepherd the child to safety in the "man village." Along the way, the boy meets an affable, lazy bear named Baloo (Bill Murray), as well as a snake with hypnotic powers (Scarlett Johansson) and an orangutan (Christopher Walken) who wants to harness the power of fire. Lupita Nyong'o, Giancarlo Esposito, and Garry Shandling also lend their voices to this adventure tale.

holiday_ghost 6:30 PM The Gravestone Girls--Welcome to the Graveyard!     Tell a Friend

Join us for a personalized virtual tour of the cemeteries of Norton! The Gravestone Girls' mission is to "Keep Our Dead Alive!" Brenda Sullivan will present a lecture on cemetery art, history & symbolism in a 90 minute Powerpoint format. The 'virtual tour', called "Welcome to The Graveyard", takes us from colonial burial grounds into 21st century locations, examining the evolution of cemeteries & gravestones. The Girls will photograph the cemeteries of Norton to build the presentation with as much local content as possibleBrenda Sullivan leads the Gravestone Girls with vast experience studying & presenting the folk art history of gravestones. In addition to lectures, Brenda leads tours, teaches gravestone rubbing classes, and has designed a casting technique for creating sculpted art pieces to commemorate this special history. Brenda's work revolves around keeping this rich history alive, preserving local history, and inspiring community service projects. We hope the information given in the program will inspire graveyard clean ups, documentation projects and other fun and educational cemetery experiences as a result of this learning experience.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Norton Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency and the Friends of the Norton Public Library.

anim_horse 10:30 AM Assateague Island Wild Ponies     Tell a Friend

Explore the circle of life as artist Rob Franco discusses the inspiration for his series of paintings on the Assateague Island Ponies. The Assateague Island National Seashore on the Eastern Maryland coast is home to these beautiful wild creatures; the ponies have lived on this barrier island, wild and free of human interference since the 1700’s, over 300 years. Short in stature and large-bellied, these ponies have adapted to life in the sand dunes and salt marshes. Bearing witness to the growth of one filly from six weeks to adulthood inspired the artist to capture these magestic animals in oil on canvas and ceramic tile.

There will be a display of approximately 18 oil paintings and a display of miniature oil paintings on ceramic tiles in the Library Community Room during the month of October.
