rec_paintpalette02 Liquid Color Explosion     Tell a Friend

John Williams (also known as “Liquid John”) is a local painter who embarked on an artistic journey last September. He has created a new style of painting through experimenting with pouring, liquid flowing color. No brushes are used except in the backgrounds of these pieces.

His Pop Art paintings are influenced by Andy Warhol, T. C. Cannon, and Vincent Van Gogh. His emphasis is on color and making these paintings pop!

Williams writes, “As far as color goes, the brighter the better. Syracuse needs all the vibrancy it can muster.”

misc_none 9:00 AM  -  5:00 PM Are you a Smart Cookie? Prove It!     Tell a Friend

Beauchamp Branch Smart Cookies are kids who use the library! They check out books, get homework help from tutors in the library, and they talk to librarians about books they like to read. On December Holiday break, smart cookies will get to attend a special Cooking Up Literacy where they will make… cookies!
Beginning on September 1st, every day that kids 12 and under check out a children’s book at Beauchamp, they earn 1 cookie point towards the Smart Cookie Cooking Up Literacy. Kids can earn additional points by attending Beauchamp Branch library programs, getting homework help in the library, and talking to a librarian about a book they read that week. Once they have earned 30 cookie points (don’t worry, the library will keep track for you!), they will be able to register for the Smart Cookie Cooking Up Literacy!

Petit Rocks! is an ongoing blog for teens.  Though it’s hosted through the Petit Branch Library, we post about more than just books.

Our mission is to provide a resource for teenagers.  We share information related to teen events, opportunities, and library resources, but more importantly, we strive to give voice to our teens on subjects that concern, interest, or involve them. Petit Rocks! also informally publishes creative work to help build audiences for young writers and is open to submissions year round.

rec_paintpalette02 9:00 AM Our Walk: A Journey Through Poetry and Illustration     Tell a Friend

Begun with a walk, carried through dreams, and borne through a year of drawing, painting, printing, sewing and binding, Our Walk is a journey of poetry and illustration written and illustrated by Marissa L. Hill, artist, writer, and educator.

In this exhibition, Hill uses her illustrated book to display the process of taking a poem from concept, through sketches, paintings, prints, and into the hand-binding of the images into limited edition artist books.

Telling the story of two people on a walk through the woods to see an ancient tree, Hill leads the reader on a path of times past marked by relics of both human and natural concepts of time and belonging.  Join us on a walk through a Central New York landscape to explore the history of the people, the land, and the natural elements that watch it all.

“On the Table” Artist Viewing Program

Please join Viewing Program artist Laura Cosgrave as she presents India ink and handmade paper drawings based on the front page of "The New York Times".  She will display her work on a table which will allow visitors to be seated when viewing her drawings, taking time to become immersed in the artwork, as one might with a book.

“To display work on a wall is one remove from an artist’s mind. But to present a drawing from a table sets the work in situ, opening a gateway into that mind.”
