“Erwin Nursery School and UPK Budding Artists Exhibit” Children, ages three to five, will be exhibiting a selection of their best creative work in the children’s area.  The three-year-olds have been exploring different media, such as printing, painting and papermaking, as well as mixed media collages and photography.  UPK (Universal Pre-K) students have begun to study the basic elements of line and shape and how to break down complex structures into shapes they can draw.  They have also explored several different kinds of media and styles.  Erwin Nursery School (ENS) offers art enrichment classes twice a month for the students.  They work with local artist and educator Andrea Buckvold.  This is Erwin’s third art exhibition, but the first to be displayed at Petit.

For May we are reading Haven : The Dramatic Story of 1,000 World War II Refugees and How They Came to America by Ruth Gruber. misc_none 10:30 AM  -  12:00 PM Estate Planning & Asset Protection Seminar     Tell a Friend
First half would be on general estate planning documents that EVERYONE, regardless of your age or financial situation, should have.  I would discuss a Last Will and Testament, Power of Attorney, Health Care Proxy and a Living Will.  For each document I would discuss what they accomplish, why they are so important for any individual, suggestions on who they should appoint for each document and address frequently asked questions and concerns for each document.

The second half would address Asset Protection.  This section is primarily focused on the best way to protect an individual's assets if that person should ever enter a nursing home.  Many people are under the impression that if you enter a nursing home, you have to privately pay for your care until you have lost all of your assets, then they can apply for Medicaid benefits.  This is not true.  I would discuss asset protection strategies for people still living at home and that have the time to protect their assets.  I will also discuss the strategies for individuals who enter a nursing home before they have the opportunity to protect everything, I will discuss what can still be done.  This section will include a discussion on Medicaid qualification requirements, the Medicaid five year look back period and the transfer of assets to an Irrevocable trust.

Registration preferred.

misc_rocks2 12:30 PM  -  2:00 PM Zen Meditation     Tell a Friend
What if the first thing on your to-do list was to do nothing? You might think you were getting away with something. You might feel restless, convinced you should be doing something, that it’s not right to do nothing, that you are being lazy, or, more likely, that you’re “wasting time.”But when I say “doing nothing,” I mean radically doing nothing.Sitting still.Just breathing.Tuning in.Becoming aware of what’s going on in your body, your mind, your surroundings.Centering yourself.Shutting up the chattering mind that usually doesn’t have anything good to say. What if doing nothing before you did anything assured that you would get everything done, without feeling frantic or overwhelmed?
JoAnn Cooke has practiced meditation at the Zen Center for 13 years. She could tell you all the amazing things it has done for her life, but that’s not the point of meditation.Meditation is experiencing it for yourself. So instead, sit up straight, lower your eyelids, put your hands in your lap, and count ten slow exhalations.Notice how you feel.
... No, really, do it.

For teens, ages 12-17. Registration preferred.

The Zen Center of Syracuse, located in the Valley on West Seneca Turnpike, has been offering meditation throughout the community for many years as a way of reducing violence and creating positive transformation. Trained facilitators like JoAnn Cooke go to various community agencies and teach young people techniques of Zen meditation as an effective skill to break the cycle of violence. It has been successful in bringing a deep sense of self-acceptance, and helping to resolve conflicts. http://oflibrary.org/
