rec_paintpalette02 9:00 AM Poster Project: Art Exhibit     Tell a Friend

The Poster Project brings together local poets and Syracuse University artists to create an annual series of poetry posters for the poster panels of downtown Syracuse. The project enlivens downtown, strengthens the city’s sense of place, and reaches the larger community by selling small prints of the large posters. Each year since its founding in 2001, the project has produced 16 unique posters. Each poster features an illustrated poem about downtown, the city, or nearby countryside. The annual release of the poster series in April culminates nearly a year of work. Now see the artwork gathered at Petit!

ent_gclef 2:30 PM Mark Zane: Musical Performance     Tell a Friend

Mark Zane was born and raised in the small rust belt city of Utica, NY and now calls Syracuse—its larger neighbor to the west—his home. Mark has written 104 songs and performs over 45 of them live. In the tradition of Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Warren Zevon, and Steve Earle, Mark’s original songs analyze American life through a sympathetic, yet sometimes critical, eye. He also writes and performs autobiographically inspired songs about love, aspirations, and everyday occurrences. In addition to his original work, he periodically throws in cover songs from some of his favorite artists.

Tapping: Emotional Acupressure
Monday, June 27, at 6 p.m.

Tapping is an energy method that uses meridians of the body in the same way that acupuncture and acupressure uses these points to align the organs of the body to promote their optimum function. Tapping is defined as emotional acupressure. This class will teach the basic tapping sequences of gently tapping on meridian points of the head and neck to relieve common concerns such as anxiety, fears, or other debilitating emotions. Tapping can also be used to relieve chronic pain. It is not invasive, needs no special equipment, and causes no pain. It can be applied to the self and is easily taught to others.

Dolores Card has taught metaphysical principles and doctrines through classes, seminars, and workshops, as well as Reiki certification, for 25 years. She is a Reiki master, ecumenical minister, and spiritual advisor. Her professional career included working with victims of sexual assault at the Syracuse Rape Crisis Center for 15 years.

Nives Marzocchi is a Tuscan-born artist from Pontremoli, Italy. She studied painting at the Skylark Studios with Carolyn Berry and graduated with a degree in sculpture at Syracuse University. Her art takes many forms and reflects both her passionate creativity and her enduring love of her homeland. Marzocchi creates spontaneous works of art with found objects which allows her to incorporate vibrant colors and three-dimensional textures into her art. She works with wood, metal, fiber, watercolor, and pastel to create sculptures of cityscapes, scenery, and abstractions. Her exhibit also includes acrylic paintings, ceramics, wall hangings, and fiber blossom bouquets.

Mindful Eating
Monday, July 25, at 6 p.m.

When applied to eating, mindfulness practice is a powerful tool which allows one to achieve a more balanced and harmonious relationship with food. Participants who practice mindful eating learn to read their own internal hunger and fullness signals, as well as determine what specific foods their body needs. This non-diet approach to eating allows one to achieve greater freedom, joy, and well-being around food. Participants in these programs have reported benefits including increased health, energy, and self confidence.

Nicole Christina is a trained psychotherapist and has been a clinical social worker for over 20 years. She also leads programs on Mindful Eating and co-teaches an ongoing Mindful Eating series at Syracuse University

Reiki: The Ancient Healing Art
Monday, August 22, at 6 p.m.

Reiki, a therapeutic touch, is a holistic technique that continues to grow as a significant and respected remedial practice. It is a source of comfort by helping to release emotional trauma as well as aiding the body to relieve pain and hasten physical healing.

The basic concepts and principles of Reiki will be introduced. Specific hand positions to utilize Reiki energy will be demonstrated and will be practiced during the workshops. Students will then be able to perform Reiki on themselves as well as others.

These two consecutive workshops will certify attendees as Reiki Level I practitioners. Certificates will be given at the end of the second training. Registration required

NDolores Card has taught metaphysical principles and doctrines through classes, seminars, and workshops, as well as Reiki certification, for 25 years. She is a Reiki master, ecumenical minister, and spiritual advisor. Her professional career included working with victims of sexual assault at the Syracuse Rape Crisis Center for 15 years
