Please note that the sign-up period for this event is Monday, June 19th - Friday, June 23rd.

Grades K-12 can explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) while helping to create a unique dragon balloon sculpture to be displayed at your library!  Each age group may join the Balloon Fairy in a special session:

10:00am – 11:00am = Session 1 for Grades 4-7 (ages 9-13)

11:15am – 12:15pm = Session 2 for Grades K-3 (ages 5-9)

12:45pm – 1:45pm = Session 3 for Grades K-7 (ages 5-13)

2:00pm – 3:00pm = Session 4 for Grades 6-12 (ages 12-18)

The college essay workshop will address helpful advice and tips for crafting a standout college essay.  In addition to hearing from an admission professional, participants will have an opportunity to engage in an essay critique and to begin brainstorming their own essay ideas with a forum to ask questions and receive constructive feedback.  Start your college application process off on the right foot by learning how to write an essay that will “wow” the reader!

The 4-H Babysitting is a FREE workshop on Tuesday, July 25 from 1:00am-4:30pm.  Please visit the library to complete a registration form.

This full day interactive 4-H class trains young people (ages 11-14) to be responsible caregivers.  Participants will receive a 4-H Certificate of Completion and 4-H Babysitter Handbook, make a Boo-Boo Bunny, and learn how to make Babysitters Bag.  Topics discussed will include how to handle emergencies wisely, identify hazards, communicate with parents,change a diaper, and discuss discipline strategies.

Local author Kevin V. Symmons will meet and greet guests and share his experience transitioning from plumbing executive to best-selling author on Amazon. This event is part of Kevin’s 2017 Write Off Competition, and aspiring authors age 16 and up are encouraged to attend and provide Kevin with a one-to-three-page sample of their work. A few submissions collected over his six-month tour will be submitted by Kevin to Wild Rose Press. The grand prize will be a one-on-one meeting with top publishing executives at Wild Rose Press and a few publishing tips.

Join Young Adult author Jen Malone (Wanderlost, Changes in Latitudes) for an afternoon of crafting stories and chatting all things books and publishing. To get our writing mojo flowing, we’ll create short stories together using some of the weirdest photos the internet has to offer as prompts. Why is that guy ironing a shirt, while wearing a tux... and standing on an iceberg? You tell us! This guided workshop will also include time to ask questions of a published author about the road to publication, the craft of writing, and/or pursuing a career in the creative arts.

Join veteran beekeeper Kenneth Warchol, who will share his knowledge from a narrated visual presentation. You will travel right inside a beehive to better understand the mysterious social insect and the role that it plays in humanity’s survival on Earth. Learn about the challenges honeybees face in our environment and find out how we can help this insect that is essential to our own survival. Ken brings samples of a variety of honey for everyone to taste.

Grades 2-5 can create a Marble Maze with cardboard, hot glue, and foam decorations.  Experiment with your own designs then test each others' Marble Mazes.  Who can make the most difficult maze?  Who can get their marble through their maze quickly?  Find out together!  (Marbles will be included and taken home.)

Our Stuffed Animal Sleepover is a FREE activity on Thursday, August 3 at 4:00pm.  Please contact the library to pre-register.

Bring a stuffed animal to the Library for an overnight adventure! 

After reading stories, singing songs, and making a craft, children can tuck their stuffie into bed and kiss them good night.  Families will be able to return in the morning (Friday, August 4th at 10:30am) to pick up their animals and make a scrapbook of their adventures.  Please ensure your little one brings a stuffed animal they can part with for the evening.

A young boy named Kubo must locate a magical suit of armour worn by his late father in order to defeat a vengeful spirit from the past.  This epic adventure set in an alternative fantasy Japan has strong themes of courage and teamwork with some perilous or scary moments (from Common Sense Media).
