misc_none 7:00 PM  -  8:30 PM Thru Hiking the Appalachian Trail Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

Those who attend this program will be treated to a modern day adventure. Sam Ducharme set out on a 2180 mile, 14 state backpacking trip from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mt. Katahdin Maine. During his six month journey he documented the rugged beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, the wildlife, the hardships encountered on the trail, as well as the people, culture and humanity at its finest. Come join him as he takes you through the trail towns, over the mountaintops and through the backcountry. The images and stories will leave you with a renewed awe of the beauty of our country and its people.

See his gear, how he cooked, and hear what it is like sleeping in a hammock for six months through three seasons.

You will also hear how Sam returned to the trail the following year, connecting with aspiring Thru Hikers, paying it forward, and his return to the summit of Katahdin one year later.

Sam Ducharme is a retired K9 Officer and is a lifelong resident of Connecticut. He has two adult sons, both serving in the United States Air Force. As an avid outdoorsman, and finding the empty-nest, Sam decided to buy a backpack and a plane ticket to Georgia. From there, he started walking north. With no prior backpacking experience, he learned on the trail. Gear, trail nutrition, enduring the elements, and the logistics involved in a long distance backpacking trip were hard lessons. After 20 years working within Connecticut’s prisons, the search for a positive recharge resulted in a life changing journey.

misc_none 6:00 PM  -  8:00 PM Allow Love Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

This is an open discussion about the energetics of love and how to allow that powerful energy to work for and within your life.

Sometimes life gets hard. And it takes your breath away. But it's during those times you need to believe in the power and purpose of love the most.

It's during these times you need to dig down deep and hold onto your beliefs and allow love to set you free from your own self- sabotaging prophecies.

And to do that you need courage, faith, and SKILLS.

In this group, we will discuss and discover ways to align with all three.

Here's the truth: You are not alone.

You are not at the mercy of your problem, struggle or pain. You're actually stronger and more powerful than it. You have the ability to overcome it - you just need to embrace and use your skills.

Trust me, regardless of what you "think" is controlling, running or ruining your life right now - you always have two powerful choices available: 1) Either you empower the problem or 2) You allow love to empower you.

Sarah is an attorney with a spiritual edge. She's a gifted medium that channels Archangels, Ascended Masters and yes, Jesus. She knows personally and has witnessed the miraculous occur in life. Miracles always show up right on time and in the precise and perfect way.

What stops your miracle or causes your miracle to take its sweet time from coming into being? You do.

You cause and prolong all suffering ... and you don't have to.

During these open discussions, you will discover skills, strategies, tools and energetic tips that allow you to raise your vibe, save your soul and allow love to set you free from suffering.

misc_none 7:00 PM  -  8:30 PM Take a Historic Trip Along the Old Canal Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

Author Bob Madison will talk about his book entitled The New Haven and Northampton Canal Greenway.  The Canal Greenway takes the bicyclist or hiker on a historic trip through sixteen towns that parallel the Connecticut River into the interior of Western New England. In 1825,
the builders of the Erie Canal finished their work and came over to Connecticut and Massachusetts to start work on a new canal connecting
Long Island Sound to the interior of Western New England. With the invention of the steam engine the canal was no longer profitable.
Later, with the demise of the railroad, bike and rail trails followed the historic canal and the railroad. This rails-to-trails book is a
comprehensive guide which includes trail maps, trailhead descriptions, attractions, original watercolor paintings, distances and a little
history of each of the sixteen towns along with the history of the canal and the railroad as the modern rail trail works its way along
some 87 miles.

The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin by Daniel James Brown       404 pages

“In 1936, the University of Washington’s eight-oar crew team raced its way to the Berlin Olympics for an opportunity to challenge the greatest in the world. How this team, largely composed of rowers from “foggy coastal villages, damp dairy farms, and smoky lumber towns all over the state,” managed to work together and sacrifice toward their goal of defeating Hitler’s feared racers is half the story. The other half is equally fascinating, as Brown seamlessly weaves in the story of crew itself. This is fast-paced and emotional nonfiction about determination, bonds built by teamwork, and what it takes to achieve glory.” – Amazon Review

misc_none 6:00 PM  -  8:00 PM Allow Love Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

The Book of Unknown Americans  By Cristina Henríquez  304 pages
When fifteen-year-old Maribel Rivera sustains a terrible injury, the Riveras leave behind a comfortable life in Mexico and risk everything to come to the United States so that Maribel can have the care she needs. Once they arrive, it’s not long before Maribel attracts the attention of Mayor Toro, the son of one of their new neighbors, who sees a kindred spirit in this beautiful, damaged outsider. Their love story sets in motion events that will have profound repercussions for everyone involved. Here Henríquez seamlessly interweaves the story of these star-crossed lovers, and of the Rivera and Toro families, with the testimonials of men and women who have come to the United States from all over Latin America.

misc_none 6:00 PM  -  8:00 PM Allow Love Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

When Breath Becomes Air By Paul Kalanithi         256 pages

From Amazon- When Breath Becomes Air is a powerful look at a stage IV lung cancer diagnosis through the eyes of a neurosurgeon. When Paul Kalanithi is given his diagnosis he is forced to see this disease, and the process of being sick, as a patient rather than a doctor--the result of his experience is not just a look at what living is and how it works from a scientific perspective, but the ins and outs of what makes life matter. This heart-wrenching book will capture you from page one and still have you thinking long after the final sentence. –Penny Mann
