Registration opens TODAY (plumblibrary.com) for Plumb Library's annual Summer Program, Build a Better World!  This is a free, nine week summer enrichment program for ages 1 and up. The Plumb SLP hopes to encourage families to read for relaxation and pleasure, while also keeping busy with our many building activities and shows!  Join us and build a better you!

Log minutes spent reading and when you complete activities or challenges
Participate in as many library events as you can! 
 
Registration allows participants access into Wandoo Reader, our on-line reading and activity log.  The kids version of Wandoo uses a game-like adventure.  Logging minutes spent reading as well as the completion of activities or challenges, earns credits which advance the child's avatar! 

Participants must log their reading minutes and participate in some library events and challenges to be eligible for prizes which will be randomly selected weekly!  Participants are also eligible for special prizes from the Boston Bruins, and special invitations at the end of the program.

Thanks to the Friends of Plumb Library, the Rochester Lions Club, and the Rochester Cultural Council for funding this program.

Donate non-perishable items for Damien's Pantry and Greyhound Pets of America and your overdue fines will be waived! 

Our reading dog, Amos, was adopted from GPA. Greyhound Pets of America - Massachusetts is a non-profit organization that relies on donations to help them care for the greyhounds waiting for homes. We do not receive any forms of help from groups such as Grey2k or The Humane Society so we survive with your generosity. You can help by donating any of the following items:

  • Cash donations are very helpful
  • Food (Most important! Preferably Purina One)
  • Bedding items such as sheets, blankets, comforter
  • Large trash bags
  • 13-gallon trash bags
  • Bleach/Fabuloso

Bring your little one to the library Wednesday mornings to listen to stories read by the Jr. Friends of Plumb Library (kids aged 9 and up) with help by Ms. Lisa.    

A Jr. Friend will read to your child, and encourage your child to read to them!  PreReaders will be encouraged to use the pictures to tell the story!  An easy book related coloring page will be provided. 

Best for ages 2 and up, but all are welcome to try this program.   No registration required! Caregivers must attend!

Thanks to  the Rochester Lions Club, Mad Science is back at Plumb Library for 3 weeks of their fun and exciting hands-on workshops  supporting the  Build Better World theme!  Using a technique of hands-on, inquiry based, FUN learning, Mad Science goes wherever elementary school aged children congregate to spark an interest in science!

Register for one, or all three, of these brain building activities:

July 12: Super Structures - a fantastic introduction to some of the concepts, terms and ideas behind engineering and architecture!      

July 19:  Mighty Machines -  Learn about levers, pulleys, wheels and more! Make your own mini-catapult to take home! 

July 26: Black and Blue Oceans - Learn about the ocean as an ecosystem. Devise and test clean-up techniques in a mock oil spill

SPACE IS LIMITED AND REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR EACH WORKSHOP.  KIDS MUST BE AGES 5 - 12 ONLY.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  THESE ARE SCHOOL AGED WORKSHOPS!

LEARN TO BECOME A RESPONSIBLE AND CERTIFIED BABYSITTER!  Our friend Evey from Plymouth Country 4-H is back for an interactive, fun full day training session! 
 
Session includes:
  • Child Safety First Aid Emergency Response
  • Feeding Discipline Entertaining Stages of Child Development
  • The Business of Babysitting
PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED BELOW AND YOU MUST COME TO THE LIBRARY FOR A 4-H PREREGISTRATION FORM.  MUST HAVE AT LEAST 5 REGISTRANTS TO RUN THIS CLASS.  REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS JULY 27!
 
Participants must be at least 11 years old and seriously interested in babysitting.  The course will be instructed by a 4-H Educator. A $10 Fee will cover all day, the 4-H Baby-sitter's Manual and other course materials. (The Friends of the Library are covering the rest of the per student cost as part of the BaBW Summer Programs) Space is limited to 15 participants. A waiting list will be created if needed. 4-H Participation Certificates and I.D. Cards are issued upon successful completion of the course.  Please bring a tree nut/peanut free lunch.

If you missed the June 12 workshop, join Girl Scout Troop 81001 members to learn about mason bees. The Girl Scouts will educate the kids about the importance of mason bees and how making houses for them helps our environment. Kids will be making and decorating  bee houses out of soup cans and rolled paper that they can bring home and hang in their yards.  Several other bee crafts will also be presented as well as take home information!  Best for kids 5 an up.  REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Meet PlumberELLA our reading and dancing princess!  She will read some stories, and teach some basic ballet!   PlumberELLA is a dancer with the Attitude Performing Arts Academy, and recently was awarded a national gold medal for her ballet routine.  

This class is best for children aged 3 - 6, but families are welcome.

Join Evey Golden, our friend from the Plymouth County 4-H, in creating no-sew pillows for local organizations.  You will also more about 4-H Teen programs which help young adults learn responsibility, higher self-esteem and resilience.  Volunteering is key in helping teens gain new skills like leadership, communication skills, dependability, time management, and decision making. 

Registration is required and space is limited to 12 kids aged 10 and above, only.  All materials will be supplied.

Jungle Jim's Minecraft Madness!  This program will support architecture, building and construction by leading kids throught the magical world of Minecraft.  Some activites include: creation of the Giant Dragon, competing in The  Building Block Madness Tournament, in the Zombie Chase and a big finale involving a humongous slimeball.  PLEASE NOTE: There will be several balloon activities.

This program is best for kids 3 and up. 

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. 

Event will take place at the Rochester First Congregational Church Fellowship Hall.

Get ready for the August 21st Solar Eclipse by joining us at the library for a presentation by Roger Menard of the Astronomical Society of Southern New England (ASSNE). Roger will tell all about Solar Eclipses including how our ancestors viewed them, why an eclipse is an awesome event, and how to safely view and photograph an eclipse.  Roger will also provide info on what the eclipse will look like here, and tools to help with viewing.   He will talk about our telescope as well! 

ATTEND this event and recieve a free pair of Eclipse Glasses provided to Plumb by StarNET/Space Science Institute. 

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  Best for ages 5 and up.

If you receive an email invitation, you are invited to celebrate the last weekend of the Summer Library Program, and Amos', (our reading dog) 8th birthday!  Amos enjoy all types of treats, so feel free to bring him a gift.  He can share with his shelter friends as well.  Play on the playground, visit the animals at Cloverfield Farm, and listen to the guitar/vocals of Scott Bissonnette (TBC)

Are you ready for the Celestial Event of the Century?

Some fortunate libraries will be able to experience a total solar eclipse, though every library in the country will observe at least a partial eclipse. 

Plumb Library Eclipse Events  will include viewing the eclipse with eclipse glasses we received from STARnet(maximum viewing is at 2:45 pm), a telescope and MOBY StarGazing backpack demonstration, and more!
