The Rhode Island Computer Museum will present a virtual Workshop call “Make Your Own Video Game”.  This is a great chance to put down your controllers and take time to learn interactive software titled “Scratch” and create your own “video game” sample.  Presented by our learning team, the program will also include an exhibit on “Historic Video Games”. The exhibit aims to explain the impact of Early Video Games and then teach the MIT developed youth program “Scratch”.  Scratch is a computer program developed to teach software coding and allows you can create your own “video game” sample. The workshop aims to explain how early video games were made and give students new skills to develop their own games.

Visual novels are a great mix between literature and video games, giving the "player" a chance to make their own decisions in the story. Ren'Py allows users to write their own.

The Rhode Island Computer Museum will present a Workshop on Ren'Py. This is a software that kids can use to create their own visual novels/text-based adventures. Participants will come up with their own story and implement it into text using a Python-like programming langauge.

In this workshop, kids will be introduced to coding concepts and basic sound design using simple programs to record / modify their voices and design a beat box. The easy-to-use drag-and-drop block codes let kids create interactive animations and sounds. By the end of the session, kids will have learned how to making their very own beat box!
