~~“In 1920 a group of German immigrants, known as the Nature Friends, purchased a farm in the Stonetown section of Ringwood.  They called it Camp Midvale.  It was to be a place where their families could experience the health benefits of nature through hiking and other activities.  They were labor supporters who marched in the May Day parades.  They opened the camp to people of all races and political views. Their views were in opposition with mainstream political conformity, and for this reason they were investigated by the FBI and placed on the List of Subversive Groups.  They were part of the McCarthy Era ‘Witch Hunt’ and the Red Scare. During the time when entertainers were ‘Black-Listed’, some performed at Camp Midvale.”

Listen to their story, think about that time in history, and consider our commitment when we speak these words, “...with liberty and justice for all.”
Learn about the history of our town and the people who created a place where they felt they could build a better world with Storyteller and Researcher RIchard Moon.

All Ages, no registration necessary, light refreshments available.
