The Friends of the Acushnet Public Library and the Rhode Island Computer Museum present:

Makey Makey Inventor's Workshop                                                

Kids will learn how to use everyday items and the "Makey Makey" to complete an electronic circuit in order to control computer programs.  Various conductive materials will be provided to get everyone started, but kids are encouraged to bring their own. Things that would conduct electricity well include: fruit, green leaves, flowers, soda cans, metal bottle caps.

Monday, June 26 @ 4 p.m. (2 hours)   Ages 8-12   

Pre-registraton is required and starts Monday, June 19 at 3 pm.

Hula Hooping for a Better World

Join us for a FUN evening on the Library Lawn* with Pinto Bella Hoops!
Pinto will start the evening with a story, told through the eyes of a young chicken!
After a demo and short performance, everyone will get a turn to try their moves on the hula hoop.  There will be some creative and team building games, too!
Finally, we'll work together to decorate a hula hoop with upcycled materials...and the Library will even get to keep the hula hoop!
 
Recommended for all ages!

Spark Imaginative Learning at the APL This Summer with Mad Science!

Join us as Mad Science presents a 6-week series of science-themed programs!

July 11 - Slippery Science: Learn about polymers.  Make your own slime!

July 18 - Under Pressure: Examine air pressure.  Have a floating ping-pong ball race!

July 25 - Mad Science Machines: Levers, pulleys, wheels!  Make your own mini-catapult to take home!

August 1 - Mineral Mania: Learn about rocks and minerals. Pan for your own minerals to take home!

August 8 - Rocket Demo: Learn about the principles of rocket flight, then head outside for an actual rocket launch!

August 15 - Bugs!: Learn about insects and dispel some of their myths. Build a bug to take home!

All programs take place on Tuesdays at 2pm and are for ages 7+!

Sign up for one or for all 6 programs.

Pre-registration is required and starts Monday, June 19th at 3pm.

Calling all crafters!  Learn how to summon lightning bolts with a bow and arrow or build giant rainbows in the Minecraft world with code! Kids will learn some basic coding concepts by using a server program called "ScriptCraft" to allow them to type in functions/commands in the game to instantly build structures.

Spark Imaginative Learning at the APL This Summer with Mad Science!

Join us as Mad Science presents a 6-week series of science-themed programs!

July 11 - Slippery Science: Learn about polymers.  Make your own slime!

July 18 - Under Pressure: Examine air pressure.  Have a floating ping-pong ball race!

July 25 - Mad Science Machines: Levers, pulleys, wheels!  Make your own mini-catapult to take home!

August 1 - Mineral Mania: Learn about rocks and minerals. Pan for your own minerals to take home!

August 8 - Rocket Demo: Learn about the principles of rocket flight, then head outside for an actual rocket launch!

August 15 - Bugs!: Learn about insects and dispel some of their myths. Build a bug to take home!

All programs take place on Tuesdays at 2pm and are for ages 7+!

Sign up for one or for all 6 programs.

Pre-registration is required and starts Monday, June 19th at 3pm.

Pick up your fluffy friend any time on Tuesday (August 22) starting at 11:00AM and find out what your stuffy was up to all night!

A letter and photo will be waiting, along with juice and munchkins.

ITSY BITSY BEINGS

The Green Art Workshop will be visiting the Acushnet Public Library.  Register for the Itsy Bitsy Beings Workshop and make your own insects, microbes, plankton, and tiny sculptures of all kinds in this assemblage workshop. Discover how to turn wire, e-waste, screws, and other odds and ends into real and imaginary creatures.

This program is for children ages 9 and up.  Registration is required.
