Latest Additions to Library Library Locations and Phones News & Events   Special Exhibit: Beth King: Paintings on Canvas     Contact: Library   858-581-9934   weblibrary@sandiego.gov     Visual Arts Exhibit: Beth King: Paintings on Canvas - More than two dozen paintings by Beth King, an artist whose works are rarely seen in public venues but who is highly respected in art circles, will be featured in a solo exhibition opening Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Pacific Beach/Taylor Branch Library. The Pacific Beach Branch Library houses the flagship gallery for the San Diego Public Library system. The exhibition, titled "Beth King: Paintings on Canvas," will run through February 15, 2010. Note: A reception for King will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on November 29. The exhibition and reception are open to the public and free of charge. This free exhibit is open to the public from August 10 through December 10, 2009. The Wangenheim Room is open to the public from Monday through Saturday, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Hidden in the collections of the Wangenheim Room is unexpected treasure — a rich trove of beautiful medieval and Renaissance miniature paintings and flashes of gold on vellum leaves that have rarely been on public display. A reception for the artist, Jeff Irwin, was held at the branch on Sunday, September 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. An artist talk was held at 1 p.m., at the exhibit location, on Saturday, October 17, 2009. This is an exhibition of recent works by nationally known ceramic artist Jeff Irwin. It features major wall-mounted and pedestal pieces from Irwin's "White Works Series." Hours are: Friday - 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturday - 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.; and, Sunday - 1 - 5 p.m. There are special book items, videos, maps, etc. Prices, unless noted on the items, are: hardbacks $1, large paperback $1, small pocketbooks $.50 or 3 for $1, records and audio cassettes $1, CDs and videos $2. Central Friends (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation) will be happy to receive your tax-deductible donations of new and used books, records, tapes, CDs, etc. to help maintain the Book Sales. Note: Donations may be taken to Central Library during the Book Sale hours only. As part of its support for the San Diego Public Library, The City of San Diego has joined all of the Friends' groups in a dollar-for-dollar "Matching Fund" program, to double the amount of your donations.
