This months Read n' Greet will be taking place at Taj Mahal Restaurant. Space is limited so register below.

This ain't your mama's bookclub! (Well, actually your mom can come too) We meet once a month to discuss new cutting edge literature in a relaxed environment. We greet, we read, we eat, we drink!

Stranger in the Woods: the Extraordinary Story of the North Pond Hermit by Michael Finkel. Christopher Knight lived for 27 years in the woods  of Maine with almost no human interaction, surviving by pilfering food and supplies. Opening with the  account of how Knight was captured by an ex-marine after stealing from a local camp, this book begins on an exciting note, though the  pace slows as Finkel weaves in  research about the  science of isolation along with an exploration of the  philosophical and nature writing that might lead someone like Knight to seek seclusion.

Location: Taj Mahal, 142 Clinton St, Schenectady

What do you do with a chair that has a loose leg?
A toaster that doesn't work anymore?
A broken necklace?
Don't throw them away, bring them to our Repair Café!

Repair Café is a neighborhood initiative that promotes repair as an alternative to tossing things out. At a Repair Café, anyone can bring their broken but cherished items to be fixed on the spot, for FREE, with the help of volunteer repair coaches. Limit of 2 items per household.

Here are some ideas of the kinds of things you can bring:

  • Small Electric Appliances
  • Furniture/Wooden Objects
  • Clothing/Textiles
  • Jewelry
  • Dolls/Toys
  • Watches/Clocks
  • Bicycles
  • Ceramics
  • Small Mechanical Items (no gas engines)

Explore how things work at the kids take-apart table

Coffee and refreshments will be served.

Interested in volunteering? Contact Dave West westfir50@gmail.com
