Training Description The South Carolina State Library welcomes PLA Trainer and Early Literacy specialist Susan Bard to present a course on EveryDay Literacy: helping to incorporate literacy activities into daily routines. Susan will conduct a follow up review on Every Child Ready to Read, the six skills and how to support them. She will also emphasize the connection between arts and literacy and how to communicate to parents and caregivers about the ECRR skills. Attendees will be able to see the connections between the Every Child Ready to Read program and the Mother Goose on the Loose program, and Susan will also introduce the South Carolina Day by Day Family Literacy Activity Calendar as a tool to promote literacy to families, caregivers and educators.

Community Disaster Response: the Role of Public Libraries

The role of libraries in emergency preparedness planning, response, and recovery is often overlooked by first responders.
This meeting will be a community forum for public library leaders and local emergency management personnel.
Participants will learn about best practices in other states and participate in dialogue between library leaders and first responders about th epotential role of libraries in disaster response.
Speakers invited include: Rebecca Hamilton, State Librarian of Louisiana; Joe Ryan, Project Manager Hurricane/Disaster Preparedness and Response by Utilizing Florida Public Libraries Project; Sam Hodge, Georgetown County SC Emergency Manager and Dwight McInvaill, Georgetown County Library Director.
The forum is sponsored by the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, the South Carolina State Library, Richland County Public Library and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Library and it is funded by the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Southeastern Atlantic Region.
Registration is free. Registration/coffee at 9:00 AM, Welcome remarks are at 9:30 AM Meeting will conclude at 1:00 PM
