The Sharon Public Library is pleased to offer a new technology program for library patrons interested in learning more about technology. Learn all about a different topic each session. Classes will be at the Adult Reference computers, and space is limited to five participants at each class, as this is a class with hands-on instruction. These will be live demonstrations of practical skills, with a chance to practice these skills with the instructor, Head of Adult and Technology Services Librarian Miki Wolfe.

This week's topic will be: Device Buying Guide

Miss a class at the library? Can't make this day and time?  Not to worry! We are partnering with the Sharon Adult Center to make TechConnect classes available at different days and times. This class and topic will repeat at the Sharon Adult Center. Contact the Sharon Adult Center at 781-784-8000 to sign up for the class at that location.

    Contact: Jessica Henderson   7817841578   jhenderson@ocln.org

Steven Spielberg directed this adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved novel, which centers on the unlikely friendship between a lonely orphan named Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) and the titular "big friendly giant" (brought to life via a motion-capture performance from Mark Rylance). Together, the pair explore Giant Country and collect dreams; later, they try to warn the Queen of England (Penelope Wilton) about the threat posed by the other giants, who, unlike the vegetarian BFG, eat children for sustenance. The BFG made its world premiere at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, and is dedicated to the memory of screenwriter Melissa Mathison (who also wrote the script for Spielberg's E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial). Rebecca Hall, Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, and Rafe Spall co-star. Author: Jack Rodgers. PG. 117 min.

Join us as we take apart or "reverse engineer" everything we can get our hands on from blenders to electric guitars and more. Disassembling an object helps us better understand how it works, as well as teaching practical, hands-on skills. We will not be breaking anything at Take Apart Tuesday - although we will be working on non-working, discarded, or unwanted items, it is always our goal to be able to reassemble whatever we dismantle. The items to take apart, as well as tools and safety equipment, will be provided, but attendees are more than welcome to bring an item from home. We are also accepting donations of broken or unwanted materials to the program (for safety reasons we cannot accept anything with glass, liquids, or that has been used to prepare foods).

Do you like to color? According to the Boston Globe, adult coloring books are flying off of the shelves. In a June 30, 2015 article, Dugan Arnett said, “In a sudden, unexpected, and generally curious development, grown-up versions of the doodle-books used by countless kindergartners have not only become a thing — but the thing, as far as millions of rapt Americans are concerned.”

See what all the excitement is for yourself at our Adult Coloring Event! We'll have a selection of coloring pages for you to choose from, along with markers, colored pencils and gel pens. Join us for a relaxing evening and color your cares away...

    Contact: Jessica Henderson   7817841578 ext 1434   jhenderson@ocln.org

This animated comedy from Illumination Entertainment asks the question: what do our pets do all day when we're not home? For the critters living in a Manhattan apartment building, the answer is: whatever they want! A terrier named Max (voice of Louis C.K.) regularly invites his friends to hang out at his place while his owner (Ellie Kemper) is gone, but his quiet life is upended when said owner also takes in Duke (Eric Stonestreet), a stray mutt whom Max instantly dislikes. Their feud eventually causes both of them to get lost in New York City, and as they work together to find their way home, they cross paths with a vicious bunny (Kevin Hart) who plans to lead a group of abandoned pets on a mission of revenge against humanity. Jenny Slate, Albert Brooks, Lake Bell, Hannibal Buress, Tara Strong, Steve Coogan, Dana Carvey, and Bobby Moynihan also lend their voices to the film, which was directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me 2) and Yarrow Cheney. Author: Jack Rodgers. PG. 90.

A book discussion group for mystery lovers...

Do you like reading mysteries, but shudder at the thought of joining yet another book group? Does the idea of talking about mystery books intrigue you, but you don't want to commit to reading another book each month? Then this is the place for you! The Cloak and Dagger Literary Society is founded on the idea of members meeting to chat about mysteries they love. No assigned books to read, nothing to prepare ahead of time. Each month will be structured around a different topic. Enjoy a short presentation from librarian Miki Wolfe, and leave with a curated list of titles guaranteed to satisfy even the most discerning mystery lover.

Can't make a meeting, but still interested in receiving a list of mystery authors each month? Sign up for our monthly newsletter and never miss a thing. Each newsletter will be filled with author information, and links to award-winning new titles. Sign up for the newsletter here:
