Do you like to color? According to the Boston Globe, adult coloring books are flying off of the shelves. In a June 30, 2015 article, Dugan Arnett said, “In a sudden, unexpected, and generally curious development, grown-up versions of the doodle-books used by countless kindergartners have not only become a thing — but the thing, as far as millions of rapt Americans are concerned.”

See what all the excitement is for yourself at our Adult Coloring Event! We'll have a selection of coloring pages for you to choose from, along with markers, colored pencils and gel pens. Join us for a relaxing evening and color your cares away...

The SPL Veteran's Club presents the film: Unforgettable: the Korean War

Korean War veterans recount their memories of America in the late 1940s and early 1950s, when young men from all over the country were being shipped off to defend South Korea against the advancing Red Army in the north. Unforgettable: The Korean War recalls the un-won war that never ended. The Korean War killed tens of thousands of U.S. soldiers and affected many more lives at home.

TechConnect offers a bi-weekly opportunity for library patrons interested in learning more about technology. Each session covers a different topic. Classes are held at the Adult Reference computers; space is limited to 5 participants per class, as TechConnect involves hands-on instruction with Assistant Director Miki Wolfe.

This week's topic will be: Back to Basics--Facebook - Learn about the general gist of Facebook, and then join in a Q&A-style discussion on privacy, newsfeeds, Pages, and more. Feel free to bring any questions you have!

Did you miss a class at the library? Are you unable make this day and time? Not to worry! Through our partnership with the Sharon Adult Center, we are able to make TechConnect classes available on Wednesday afternoons at the Center with Information Services Librarian Hilary Umbreit. Contact the Sharon Adult Center at 781-784-8000 to sign up for the class at that location and/or for more information about dates and times.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self describe leading man of that ensemble LEGO Batman stars in his own big screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker's hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Join us as we take apart or "reverse engineer" everything we can get our hands on from blenders to electric guitars and more. Disassembling an object helps us better understand how it works, as well as teaching practical, hands-on skills. We will not be breaking anything at Take Apart Tuesday - although we will be working on non-working, discarded, or unwanted items, it is always our goal to be able to reassemble whatever we dismantle. The items to take apart, as well as tools and safety equipment, will be provided, but attendees are more than welcome to bring an item from home. We are also accepting donations of broken or unwanted materials to the program (for safety reasons we cannot accept anything with glass, liquids, or that has been used to prepare foods).

Ages 9 - 12

The Sharon Public Library Veteran's Club is hosting Historian, Daniel Leclerk in a presentation on Korea: The Forgotten War on October 12.  Presentation begins at 6:00 pm in the Library Community Room.  All are Welcome!!   Refreshments.

The Korean War was a tragic war in which American soldiers were rapidly deployed, with little training, inadequate weapons and a minimal understanding of Korean culture and fighting methods.  They faced very difficult mountainous terrain, in either frigid or very hot weather against large numbers of well trained North Korean and Chinese soldiers. American soldiers fought hard with great courage and tenacity and experienced a very high casualty rate. This talk will look at major policy and strategic decisions, examine the tactics used by both sides, the tenuous relationship between President Truman and General MacArthur and evaluate the victories and defeats on both sides.
