Sharon Public Library Veteran's Club invites you to attend a presentation by Professor Daniel Leclerc - The Human Face of the Great War.

The program begins at 6:00 PM in the Library Community Room.

The unprecedented and shocking human cost of World War 1 staggered all involved, raised doubts about dominant military strategy and had a deep impact on culture, art, literature and contemporary geo-political reality.  The shock waves of this massive loss of life and collateral suffering resonates to this day. This hour-long presentation will examine the impact of industrialized warfare, the concept of total war, key campaigns and battles, life in the trenches, shell shock, frontiers of medicine and the impact of devastating sorrow and grief, then and now, and selected representations of art and literature of this tragic war.

Refreshments.

Disassembling an object helps us better understand how it works, as well as teaching practical, hands-on skills. We will not be breaking anything at Take Apart Tuesday - although we will be working on non-working, discarded, or unwanted items, it is always our goal to be able to reassemble whatever we dismantle. The items to take apart, as well as tools and safety equipment, will be provided, but attendees are more than welcome to bring an item from home. We are also accepting donations of broken or unwanted materials to the program (for safety reasons we cannot accept anything with glass, liquids, or that has been used to prepare foods).

Do you like to color? According to the Boston Globe, adult coloring books are flying off of the shelves. In a June 30, 2015 article, Dugan Arnett said, “In a sudden, unexpected, and generally curious development, grown-up versions of the doodle-books used by countless kindergartners have not only become a thing — but the thing, as far as millions of rapt Americans are concerned.”

See what all the excitement is for yourself at our Adult Coloring Event! We'll have a selection of coloring pages for you to choose from, along with markers, colored pencils and gel pens. Join us for a relaxing evening and color your cares away...

Join us as we take apart or "reverse engineer" everything we can get our hands on from blenders to electric guitars and more.

    Contact: Lee Ann Amend   781-784-1578, x1425   lamend@ocln.org

The Sharon Public Library Veteran's Club invites you to attend Professor Daniel LeClerc's presentation - Korea: The Forgotten War.

Program starts at 6:00 PM in the Library Community Room.

The Korean War was a tragic war in which American soldiers were rapidly deployed, with little training, inadequate weapons and a minimal understanding of Korean culture and fighting methods.  They faced very difficult mountainous terrain, in either frigid or very hot weather against large numbers of well trained North Korean and Chinese soldiers.   American soldiers fought hard with great courage and tenacity and experienced a very high casualty rate.   This talk will look at major policy and strategic decisions, examine the tactics used by both sides, the tenuous relationship between President Truman and General MacArthur and evaluate the victories and defeats on both sides.

Refreshments.
