Peace Dale Library

Ages 4-12 years

See the classic story of Alice in Wonderland brought to life in this theater presentation! Lewis Carroll's immortal classic, Alice in Wonderland, is a wonderful tale of a young girl whose boredom takes her on a journey of imagination. Through Alice's travels, everyday things become extraordinary. The words on the page come alive as she recites The Jabberwocky and learns how to overcome her own fears. Through this story, Hampstead Stage Company hopes to encourage children to enjoy using their imagination, triumph over their fears, and find magical things right in their own backyard.

    Contact: Jessica Wilson   789-1555 xt 110   jwilson@skpl.org

South Kingstown Public Library/Peace Dale, 1057 Kingstown Rd., Peace Dale, RI 02879, presents Westerly native Joseph Luzzi with his new book, My Two Italies, on Tuesday, August 12, 4 PM.

Luzzi, the first American-born member of his Calabrian immigrant family, explores his complicated feelings about the land of his heritage. As a scholar of Dante, Michelangelo, and other great figures, as well as of the contemporary scene, he examines his own family history and memories in the context of Italian politics and culture.

Joseph Luzzi is a professor of Italian at Bard College and a frequent contributor of essays and reviews to publications including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Bookforum, the London Times Literary Supplement. His first book, Romantic Europe and the Ghost of Italy (Yale Univ. Press 2008), received the Scaglione Prize for Italian Studies from the Modern Language Association). This is his fourth appearance at Peace Dale Library, and the only stop in southern Rhode Island on his book tour.

See reviews of My Two Italies: Publisher's Weekly, Kirkus, NPR, Bookpage.

The event is free and open to the public. Funding is provided by Friends of the Peace Dale Library. Books will be available for sale after the talk.

lib_book01 6:30 PM  -  7:30 PM Mother-Daughter Book Club Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

6th-8th grade girls and their mothers, mentors and friends are invited to a lively discussion of "Summer & Bird" by Katherine Catmull, a book related activity and snacks!

When their parents disappear in the middle of the night, young sisters Summer and Bird set off on a quest to find them. A cryptic picture message from their mother leads them to a familiar gate in the woods, but comfortable sights quickly give way to a new world entirely--Down--one inhabited by talking birds and the evil Puppeteer queen. Summer and Bird are quickly separated, and their divided hearts lead them each in a very different direction in the quest to find their parents, vanquish the Puppeteer, lead the birds back to their Green Home, and discover the identity of the true bird queen.

Copies of books are available at the library. To learn more, please contact us at 789-1555, x. 115 or tladika@skpl.org.
