Join us at Peace Dale Library on Saturday, May 21, 2 PM, with  photographer Markham Starr  for the first public showing of his new documentary about Rhode Island scallop fishing.

The film takes us on a day trip out of Point Judith with Capt. Mike Marchetti and crew members Greg Verdon and Frank Nelson.

Starr's work documents changing or vanishing ways of working life in New England. Subjects range from commercial fishing to dairy farming, stone walls, sardine canning, the training of Coast Guard cadets, and more. His work has been featured in numerous magazines and museums, and his photographs are included in the permanent collections of Mystic Seaport and the Library of Congress.

Join us Monday, May 23, 6:30 PM, at Peace Dale Library with author Jenna O'del, who will speak about her book Hidden Presences.

Jenna O'del is a seventeen-year-old Rhode Island writer and member of the Association of Rhode Island authors. Hidden Presences is her debut novel, the first in a series called Hidden Strength, and she describes it as "a middle-grade anthropomorphic fantasy novel", introducing it as follows:

In the middle of the night, Adamar the fox’s kit, Miro, is stolen. When Adamar learns about Miro’s disappearance, he is guided towards the Darvin kingdom, and its king, Girbindon. Adamar and his fellow archers head out on a quest to bring Miro home. On the quest, they must fight the forces of Girbindon, who is determined to keep Miro for his evil plans. Adamar is ready to get Miro back at any cost, but he quickly begins to discover just how far Girbindon’s influence reaches…

The Peace Dale Library Evening Book Group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM.

All meetings take place at the Library except July and August, when we meet at the Neighborhood Guild. The next month's title is announced and distributed at each meeting.  New discussers are always welcome!
