Families are invited join us for a fun read aloud celebration of the Kids Reading Across RI book, Flora & Ulysses!

After rescuing a squirrel from an accident involving a vacuum cleaner, comic-reading cynic Flora Belle Buckman is astonished when the squirrel, Ulysses, demonstrates astonishing powers of strength and flight after being revived.

Bring a brown-bag lunch and listen while your youth service librarians read aloud from the Flora & Ulysses. After lunch, we'll have related games and crafts, and each family will recieve a free copy of the book to take home (while supplies last).

Join us at Peace Dale Library on Tuesday, February 23, 6 PM, for a showing of the locally produced 57-minute documentary film Woven in Time: The Salt Pond Preserve.

This film is about the discovery and preservation of the only surviving pre-contact Native American village on the New England coast, located on the shore of Salt Pond. The parcel of land was at the center of a 30-year process involving property rights and cultural preservation. The film, produced and directed by Marc Levitt, describes the evolution of a collaboration between the state of Rhode Island and the Narragansett regarding stewardship of the land. It features interviews with many local residents, music by local musicians, and is sponsored by RIDOT and the Federal Highway Administration. Executive producer is Michael Hebert.

Peace Dale Library's 2016 French Film Festival continues Wednesday, March 9, 2 PM, with our third film:

Jean de Florette, 1986, 121 minutes, PG

Directed by Claude Berri, starring Yves Montand and Gérard Depardieu. With their eye on an adjacent property, a country landowner and his nephew work to block the only water source for their neighbor, aiming to bankrupt him and push him into to selling.

The event is free and open to the public. There will be French-themed refreshments, informational handouts, and opportunity for discussion.

Peace Dale Library's 2016 French Film Festival continues Wednesday, April 13, 2 PM, with our fourth film:

Manon of the Spring (Manon des Sources), 1986, 114 minutes, PG

Directed by Claude Berri, starring Yves Montand and Emmanuelle Béart.  Sequel to Jean de Florette. The daughter of the neighbor whose death resulted indirectly from the blocked spring exacts revenge on those who conspired to make it happen.

The event is free and open to the public. There will be French-themed refreshments, informational handouts, and opportunity for discussion. The final film in the series will be shown Wednesday, May 11, 2 PM: Day for Night (La Nuit Américaine).
