Our Rainbow Alliance and several other groups of teens are excited to have our 2nd annual Teen Pride Party.  This event is open to all who identify as LGBTQ and their allies in grades 7-12.  We'll have music and dancing, plus some calmer activities for those who prefer it.  Registration will begin a month before the event (Aug 14).

Join the party, meet new people and be proud of who you are all the time.

Image result for memory and your brainSeptember is Healthy Aging Month.  Penn Medicine Princeton Health will be offering a workshop on Memory and Your Brain today, Wednesday, September 24 at 2:00 in Meeting Room A/B.  If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss or changes in behavior or thinking skills, it's time to learn the facts. Attend this informative session presented by Jeffrey Apter, MD, board certified in psychiatry, and learn the differences between mild cognitive impairment, dementia, and Alzheimer's, as well as the steps you should take if you or a loved one has started to notice a decline in memory. Early detection, diagnosis and intervention are vital because they provide the best opportunities for treatment, support and planning for the future. Dr. Apter is a member of the Medical Staff of Penn Medicine Princeton Health.

This workshop focuses on the strategic process of managing the financial resources of a small business. You will learn about the importance and basic elements of creating a budget, recording financial transactions, creating a financial statement, and other fundamental entrepreneurial responsibilities.

Presenter Bio:  Ernest (Val) Mathews is a Business/Technical Solutions professional with 20+ years success driving complex engagements, pre- and post-sales support, managing sub-contractors, and developing new services in changing commercial, government, and technical markets. His responsibilities have included bid management, business cases, and business/technical risk analysis for various organizations, including small companies, large corporations, Federal agencies, and an international joint venture.

Val has worked for Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, IBM, AT&T (as manager dealing with Federal Government projects), and a Russian American telecom investment company. He was a Solutions Architect for a complex international oil and gas services project. Val is currently a mentor with the SCORE Princeton chapter.

Princeton SCORE offers Business Seminars on the fourth Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise noted in this calendar) in the South Brunswick Public Library. The topics will be announced on the SCORE Princeton website at http://princeton.score.org/localworkshops

Using yoga, stories, and play, this children's workshop provides children with opportunities to grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. Each class will incorporate opening activities, songs, yoga poses, games/creative movement, relaxation/breathwork and a closing activity. This workshop is taught by certified children's yoga instructor Anita Burke. Mrs. Shari Silverman, a special education teacher from the South Brunswick School District with over 30 years of teaching experience, will assist.

Image result for tie dye patternsIn honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festival in1969, the October adult craft will be a project creating tie-dye "masterpieces."  Dress in casual clothes that you won't mind getting stained!  We will be tie-dying a white cotton bandanna measuring 22" by 22".  You may bring a clean white cotton t-shirt if you would prefer.   

Adult Crafternoons meet monthly on the first Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in Program Room 1A/1B, unless otherwise noted in this calendar.  The class is size is limited .  Unreserved and no-show seats will be filled on a first come first serve basis.  The doors will be closed at 1:35 p.m. and no one else will be admitted once the class begins.

Teen Voices in Alliance (TVA) is the new teen advisory board for the South Brunswick Public Library.  They are the teen voices for the library and the community, helping create events, make suggestions and work on projects for the community and the library.  

Joining TVA is not required of anyone, it is an option for teens who want to feel they make a difference and want their voice to be heard.  To become a member you must file a special TVA application, and be accepted by Saleena as a member.  There are a limited number of spaces, so qualified applicants may be placed on a waiting list.

We're starting a new thing this Oct, we're having one day a week where the teen librarian will host random fun activities for a bit in the teen room.  It may be some card or board games, maybe some DIY stuff, maybe a coloring page, or a crossword puzzle.....you just won't know until you get there!   If you have ideas for activities, be sure and let Saleena or one of the other Teen Library Staff know and they'll see what they can do.   

School is demanding and life is hard, it's good to take a moment and chill; enjoy life a  little and de-stress.

Learn how to make simple and inexpensive DIY button art…perfect for wall décor or a homemade gift. Use our colorful assortment of buttons or bring in your own to create a beautiful work of art!

Registration is not required but space is limited and will be given on a first come, first served basis.
