The ART of Reading Adult Summer Reading Program Kickoffs with a discussion of contemporary poets. We have Issues! Two Contemporary poets, Kay Ryan and Richard Blanco: Two Contemporary Voices
Join author and discussion leader David Garnes for an evening program looking at two contemporary poets: Kay Ryan and Richard Blanco. Ryan, whose poetry has been likened to Emily Dickinson’s, was recently Poet Laureate of the United States for two terms (2008-2010). Blanco, a Cuban-American, was chosen to compose and read a poem at President Obama’s second inauguration. The titles being discussed are: Kay Ryan's, The Best of It: New and Selected Poems. Richard Blanco's, Looking for the Gulf Motel.
The Discussion Leader David Garnes was head of acquisitions and reference librarian at the University of Connecticut for 21 years. David is the author of many scholarly articles and most recently three books including "After the War was over: Poems of an American Childhood".
