    The goal of the Children Reading to Dogs Tail Waggin’ Tutors Program is to enhance children’s reading through the use of pets who are certified and insured therapy dogs. Children read on a one-to-one basis to a dog, each positioned on his respective rug with the handler nearby. The atmosphere is one of complete acceptance. Even children who are new, reluctant, or poor readers are quite uninhibited to read to a non-judgmental furry dog. So, stop by the library and pick out a book to read to your next best friend! Club members will play quiz games for prizes, make projects based on the book’s themes, and work together to create journal entries to help remember the stories. A small snack will also be provided.

    The South Park Township Library is excited to have David Edwards visit our library. A graduate from Shady Side Academy and works with the Pittsburgh Kids + Creativity Network. Kindergarten and school-aged children will have the opportunity to make friendly characters, made from recycled materials, resembling familiar insects, reptiles and mammals and designed for hand-on discovery learning. And everyone will make a character to take home and place on their refrigerator.

    The Accelerated Reader Club will meet on Monday afternoons from 2:30pm-3:30pm at the South Park Township Library with the instructional guidance of Ms. McCullough, SPEC librarian. Each weekly program is designed to make an AR book fun to read. Club members will play quiz games for prizes, make projects based on the book’s themes, and work together to create journal entries to help remember the stories. A small snack will also be provided.
