FIREFLIES!
Come learn about the
fascinating nocturnal insects
which brighten our warm
summer nights

FIREFLIES in the Library!

In this firefly program we will learn about these special nocturnal insects, and about the ways in which they have been used around the world as sources of light. Fireflies have been used as flashlights, and lanterns for centuries. Learn about what makes their ‘cool light’ different from the ‘hot light’ of a candle or flame.

Afterwards we will play a game with flashlights, in which we learn about the way fireflies communicate to one another. Firefly Hands on Activities: Look at live fireflies up close with magnifiers, Make a firefly catcher to take home for warm summer nights, Try on ‘bug eyes’ to get a feel for how bugs, such as fireflies, see the world.

Great family event.  Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants are asked to bring a recycled  spaghetti  sized glass jar to the event. There will be some jars available for purchase at the event ($2.00)
