Come to the library to see fabulous Pop Realism portraits by Longmeadow artist Dave Hay.  These portraits include famous people such as Andy Warhol, Rod Stewart, Michelle Obama and many more.  Dave earned an Art Degree from Springfield College and an advanced Art Education Degree from Westfield State University.  After teaching locally for 25 years, he is now pursuing a career as a full-time artist.  Dave currently works from his studio at the Indian Orchard Mills.  An art reception to meet this exceptional artist will be held Wednesday, September 6th from 6:30-7:30 with light refreshments.  Please join us!  During the month, Dave's exhibit may be viewed anytime the Betty Ann Low Room is not in use.

Join us for a lecture by Betsy McKee, board member of Longmeadow Cemetery Association and Longmeadow Historical Society, about early New England cemeteries.  McKee lives in a house built around 1801 by the Longmeadow gravestone carver Hermon Newell.  This inspired her to study early gravestones of the Connecticut River Valley and nearby New England towns. Betsy will cover gravestone photography, original appearance of graveyards, symbolism, carvers, and stories carved in stone.

This event is sponsored by the Longmeadow Historical Society, Storrs Library, and the Longmeadow Cemetery Association.

Nardozzi has written for National Gardening magazine, Organic Gardening, authored several books, and has appeared on PBS , HGTV and other network presentations.Foodscaping discusses attractive, edible varieties of plants that can be incorporated into your landscape. Get design ideas, plant combination suggestions, edible replacement plant lists, and discover some favorite foodscape plants. There is no registration neccessary for this event.

Wilbraham Art League will be exhibiting from October 2nd  through October 31st.  The league has 95 artists with many of them exhibiting their work.  The exhibit will showcase 30+ paintings and photographs of New England landscapes and florals in a variety of mediums such as oil, acrylic and watercolor.  An art reception will take place on Saturday October 7th from 12 thru 2.  Come in and meet the many artists and enjoy some light refreshments too.

An Evening of Frost is a unique, interactive performance that begins with a short biographical introduction of the poet's life and includes an open discussion of the following poems:  "A Tuft of Flowers", "Mending Wall", "Birches",  "After Apple Picking", "Acquainted with the Night", and "Desert Places". Enjoyment of the performance will be enhanced by having read these poems. The performance closes with a dramatic reading of Frost's hauntingly memorable "The Death of the Hired Man". Copies of a Frost poetry collection will be available at the library circulation desk.
This program is sponsored by a grant from the Longmeadow Cultural Council.

Authors: 

Steve Liskow is  the author of eleven novels, all but the first one, self-published. His short stories have appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, Sherlock Holmes Mystery Magazine, and several anthologies. Hot Sugar Blues was a finalist for the Edgar Award for Best Short Story from the Mystery Writers of America, and Stranglehold won the Black Orchid Novella Award. He has also placed five stories in the top ten for the Al Blanchard Story Award, three of them earning Honorable Mention.

Sharon Healy-Yang will offer her perspective on successful small press publishing. College professor by day, she turns to writing at night, where her love of films and books created during the 1930s-50s inspired her to write Bait and Switch, a mystery/romance set in 1943, a finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards.

Join us for a day of community quilt making!  In the spirit of caring and sharing, all levels of sewers are welcome to attend this multi-generational, multi-cultural event! On Saturday, October 21 we will sew the quilt squares and join them together.  On Saturday, November 4 we will assemble the quilt.  Register for either a morning or afternoon session.  Attend one or both days, as your schedule permits.  If you don't want to or can't sew, stop by to join in the joy of this event. The quilts will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. 

Registration is limited  to 15 quilters per session, session times are 10-12:30 & 1-3:30. Side projects for children: quilt scrap note cards, fabric dolls.

Sensory-enhanced storytime is an inclusive program developed for all ages, children through young adults, who are on the autism spectrum or differently abled, and is presented at a preschool level of development. Sensory Storytime will meet on the fourth Saturday of every month from September through April. We will offer a consistent and caring environment to come together for songs, picture books, simple crafts and/or activities. Feedback from caregivers will always be welcome.

Children of all abilities and stages of development are welcome at Storrs Library. Sensory-enhanced storytime is an inclusive program developed for all ages, children through young adults, who are on the autism spectrum or differently abled, and is presented at a preschool level of development. Sensory Storytime will meet on the fourth Saturday of every month from September through April. We will offer a consistent and caring environment to come together for songs, picture books, simple crafts and/or activities. Feedback from caregivers will always be welcome.

Sensory-enhanced storytime is an inclusive program developed for all ages, children through young adults, who are on the autism spectrum or differently abled, and is presented at a preschool level of development. Sensory Storytime will meet on the fourth Saturday of every month from September through April. We will offer a consistent and caring environment to come together for songs, picture books, simple crafts and/or activities. Feedback from caregivers will always be welcome.

Gineen Cooper, a Longmeadow resident will be exhibiting her artwork during the month of January.  These eclectic poster size pieces are done in watercolor and watercolor pencil.  Come in to view these unique mandalas anytime the exhibit room is not in use for programming.  A reception will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-7:30 for everyone to meet this unique artist.  Light refreshments will be served. During the month, Gineen's exhibit may be viewed anytime the Betty Ann Low Room is not in use.

Community Music School is offering an introductory Little Roots program, designed for ages infant to 5 years. Little Roots is an enriching and engaging community music experience for the young child and their caregiver. This is your little one’s introduction to the wonder and joy of music. Little Roots was founded by Annie Lynch Stevenson and Maggie Shar, who recognized the value of quality live music for people of all ages. The repertoire is fun and accessible, including elements of storytelling and exposure to a variety of instruments. Little Roots features songs rooted in a variety of musical traditions: American Folk, West African, American Indian, Gospel, Irish Trad, Rock, Jazz and Blues among others.

Children of all abilities and stages of development are welcome at Storrs Library. Sensory-enhanced storytime is an inclusive program developed for all ages, children through young adults, who are on the autism spectrum or differently abled, and is presented at a preschool level of development. Sensory Storytime will meet on the fourth Saturday of every month from September through April. We will offer a consistent and caring environment to come together for songs, picture books, simple crafts and/or activities. Feedback from caregivers will always be welcome.

Come in to view a traveling exhibit by extremely talented Ukrainian children aged 8-13.  All different mediums are used including paper cutting, watercolors, acrylics and 3 dimensional art.  This exhibit is dedicated to promoting peace through arts and culture.  A lecture explaining the artwork and the meaning behind the exhibit will take place on Tuesday February 6th from 6:30-7:30.  Light refreshments will be served. The artwork may be viewed any time the exhibit room is not in use.

Join us to welcome a speaker explaining the history and meaning behind the Storrs Library February exhibit.  The traveling art exhibit is comprised of artwork by Ukrainian children from the ages of 8-13.  These talented students use different mediums such as watercolors, acrylics and 3 dimensional paper cutting.  This exhibit is dedicated to promoting peace through arts and culture.

Come to the library to see a collection of fashion magazine sketches by the famous New York City artist Benita Zundell.  These sketches of women's clothing are from fashion magazines and were seen all over the world.   An art reception to meet the artist's daughter will be held Monday, March 5 from 6:30-7:30 with light refreshments being served   Please join us!  During the month, Benita's exhibit may be viewed anytime the Betty Ann Low Room is not in use.

Children of all abilities and stages of development are welcome at Storrs Library. Sensory-enhanced storytime is an inclusive program developed for all ages, children through young adults, who are on the autism spectrum or differently abled, and is presented at a preschool level of development. Sensory Storytime will meet on the fourth Saturday of every month from September through April. We will offer a consistent and caring environment to come together for songs, picture books, simple crafts and/or activities. Feedback from caregivers will always be welcome.
