The LC Readers will meet the first Wednesday of selected months from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Group picks will focus on thought-provoking, enjoyable, contemporary literature with occasional discussion of classical literature and notable nonfiction as well.

For our October meeting the group will read and discuss Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline. The book is available throughout the Sussex County Library System including in eBook format. Click on the title to be linked to our catalog and request a copy in the format and at the location most convenient to you.

The experiments are geared to kids in grades 4-6 but younger and older siblings are also welcome. We ask that each participating "scientist" complete their own registration form so that we have enough supplies for all. Registration begins August 25.

Gaming Night and Minecraft Club have been rolled into a brand new venture - Technology Club. Each month we'll introduce new software and apps and then turn you loose to play Minecraft, videogames, etc. Today we'll be trying out Scratch 2.0 which allows you to use simple programming to make video-type games. Bring your own laptop or tablet if possible.

Technology Club is for kids in grades 4 and up. Registration is preferred and begins September 17. Walk-ins will be welcomed if space allows.

Main Library will be hosting two Build Nights sponsored by Instructables.com. We will continue to explore SUGRU, a putty that sets as rubber overnight, and add a DODOcase Cardboard Virtual Reality challenge.

In both cases the idea is to come up with new and/or improved ways to use the products provided by Instructables in order to win cool prizes for the Sussex County Library System.

Kids in grade 7 up through adults are invited to join in the fun and create something new.  Registration begins September 17.

Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog from Therapy Dogs International. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. The dogs provide an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  3:45, 4:00, 4:15 or 4:30. Registration begins September 18 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Main Library at 973 948-3660. Register early, slots fill up quickly.


Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.

Join in the fun at Franklin and learn to play exciting, interactive, 3-D board games. The games Rampage and King of Tokyo will be available. Both games involve giant monsters with loud roars and special powers who are on a quest to rule your opponents and the world.

Mark and Hope Miladinovich of MarkoramaGames.com will be on hand to direct the play and help the group come up with ideas for future gaming nights.

The games are for players ages 8 and older. Please complete a separate registration for each player, noting their age, so that we may have other, age-appropriate games available.

Join us for a fun family music class for children from birth through age 5 and the adults who love them. During this free, 45-minute class, caretakers and children alike will dance and have fun experiencing music, rhythmic rhymes, movement activities, and instrumental jam sessions. There will be drums of all sorts, bells, triangles, shakers, rhythm sticks, scarves, maracas, and more! 

Sponsored through the generosity of the Friends of the Sussex-Wantage Library, this free class will meet for a total of four sessions from September 12 through October 10. Space is limited to a total of 20 children for per class, and each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will also participate.

Due to the space limitation you must complete a registration form for each child participating and you must also register separately for each class date. Please register here beginning September 19 for the October 3 session.

Local artist, Sally Stansfield, is conducting a series of four introductory watercolor classes. Each 2-hour class is open to just 12 participants of high school age and above. Each class teaches a different watercolor technique, can be taken as stand-alone instruction, and requires a separate registration. They are as follows:

  • September 13 - Monochrome Watercolor Landscapes (registration begins 8/30/14)
  • September 20 - Adding Color (registration begins 9/6/14)
  • September 27 - Extra Techniques (registration begins 9/13/14)
  • October 4 - Winter Scene (registration begins 9/20/14)

Local yoga instructor Jane Bielen Schear teaches a weekly yoga and meditation class for adults in the community room at Main Library. The yoga portion begins at 11:00 and runs for about 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Participants need not stay the entire time. You can attend the yoga portion alone, come at Noon for the meditation or stay for the whole class.

This is a free program. No previous experience is necessary. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

No registration is required, but make sure you exchange contact information with Jane the first time you attend to be contacted about any scheduling changes. The group meets every Saturday except the third Saturday of the month.

Heather Carlson from His & Hers in Andover, and Janine Dippel from Creative Colors by Janine, will lead an Introduction to Chalk Painting class. In just 1 1/2 hours you'll learn to craft a pumpkin centerpiece from twigs and other garnishments, and then to create the finished look with chalk paints from the Dixie Belle Paint Company. Heather and Janine will demonstrate painting techniques to create a "weathered/distressed" finish and also show you how to create a centerpiece that looks fresh and new.

A $15 materials fee will be collected at the beginning of class, cash only please.

This class is limited to 25 participants in High School and older. Please register beginning September 27.

Local yoga instructor Jane Bielen Schear teaches a weekly yoga and meditation class for adults in the community room at Main Library. The yoga portion begins at 11:00 and runs for about 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Participants need not stay the entire time. You can attend the yoga portion alone, come at Noon for the meditation or stay for the whole class.

This is a free program. No previous experience is necessary. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

No registration is required, but make sure you exchange contact information with Jane the first time you attend to be contacted about any scheduling changes. The group meets every Saturday except the third Saturday of the month.

Newton High School junior, Kyla Izquierdo, will be at Main Library every Monday from October 20-November 24 to teach basic ballet to children ages 5-8. Kyla has been dancing for 14 years and is currently a competition dancer.

These free classes are 30 minutes each with a mini performance at the end of the last class. Children should wear comfortable, but not loose, clothing.

You need not commit to all six weeks to attend. Class size is limited to just 12 children per week. Registration for each week is separate and begins two weeks before the class date. You must complete a separate registration for each child attending and be sure to call the Library at 973 948-3660 if you need to cancel so your slot can be given to a child on the waiting list.

Main Library will be hosting two Build Nights sponsored by Instructables.com. We will continue to explore SUGRU, a putty that sets as rubber overnight, and add a DODOcase Cardboard Virtual Reality challenge.

In both cases the idea is to come up with new and/or improved ways to use the products provided by Instructables in order to win cool prizes for the Sussex County Library System.

Kids in grade 7 up through adults are invited to join in the fun and create something new.  Registration begins September 17.

Local yoga instructor Jane Bielen Schear teaches a weekly yoga and meditation class for adults in the community room at Main Library. The yoga portion begins at 11:00 and runs for about 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Participants need not stay the entire time. You can attend the yoga portion alone, come at Noon for the meditation or stay for the whole class.

This is a free program. No previous experience is necessary. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

No registration is required, but make sure you exchange contact information with Jane the first time you attend to be contacted about any scheduling changes. The group meets every Saturday except the third Saturday of the month.

These free classes are 30 minutes each with a mini performance at the end of the last class. Children should wear comfortable, but not loose, clothing.

You need not commit to all six weeks to attend. Class size is limited to just 12 children per week. Registration for each week is separate and begins two weeks before the class date. Today is the 2nd Anniversary of Hurricane Sandy wreaking havoc on Sussex County. One county resident, Dan Freed, was inspired by the wreckage to create Hurricane Sandy Brought to Justice in Sussex County, an award-winning sculpture crafted from broken trees left behind by the storm.

Families and children of all ages, especially aspiring young artists, are invited to see the sculpture and learn about how it was made. Mr. Freed will show examples of the materials he used, many of which are touchable by little hands, as well as a range of tools and wood working techniques.

Hurricane Sandy Brought to Justice in Sussex County will be on display through October 31st but to meet the artist register below and join us in the Community Room today. Registration is preferred but walk-ins will be welcome if space allows.

Local yoga instructor Jane Bielen Schear teaches a weekly yoga and meditation class for adults in the community room at Main Library. The yoga portion begins at 11:00 and runs for about 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Participants need not stay the entire time. You can attend the yoga portion alone, come at Noon for the meditation or stay for the whole class.

This is a free program. No previous experience is necessary. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

No registration is required, but make sure you exchange contact information with Jane the first time you attend to be contacted about any scheduling changes. The group meets every Saturday except the third Saturday of the month.

Newton High School junior, Kyla Izquierdo, will be at Main Library every Monday from October 20-November 24 to teach basic ballet to children ages 5-8. Kyla has been dancing for 14 years and is currently a competition dancer.

These free classes are 30 minutes each with a mini performance at the end of the last class. Children should wear comfortable, but not loose, clothing.

You need not commit to all six weeks to attend. Class size is limited to just 12 children per week. Registration for each week is separate and begins two weeks before the class date. You must complete a separate registration for each child attending and be sure to call the Library at 973 948-3660 if you need to cancel so your slot can be given to a child on the waiting list.

Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. The dogs provide an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  4:00, 4:15, 4:30 or 4:45. Registration begins November 10 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Louise Childs Branch at 973 770-1000. Register early, slots fill up quickly.


Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.

Local yoga instructor Jane Bielen Schear teaches a weekly yoga and meditation class for adults in the community room at Main Library. The yoga portion begins at 11:00 and runs for about 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Participants need not stay the entire time. You can attend the yoga portion alone, come at Noon for the meditation or stay for the whole class.

This is a free program. No previous experience is necessary. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

No registration is required, but make sure you exchange contact information with Jane the first time you attend to be contacted about any scheduling changes. The group meets every Saturday except the third Saturday of the month.
