misc_rocks2 4:30 PM  -  5:30 PM Franklin - S.T.E.A.M. into the Library Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

S.T.E.A.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. Each month the libraries will be exploring a new S.T.E.A.M. topic with hands-on activities geared to kids in grades 2 and above. This month we're exploring the world of rocks. First we'll use Starburst candies to demonstrate how rocks form, and then we'll learn to classify rocks based on hardness. Each participant will make their own rock in a cup to take home and study.

Each session is limited to 15 participants. Please register at the listing for your preferred Branch beginning February 3:

anim_dog_scottie 3:00 PM  -  4:30 PM Franklin - Read-to-a-Dog Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to Lucey and Finnegan, two adorable Sheltie therapy dogs. Each child will be allowed a full 15 minutes of one-on-one reading time. Lucey and Finnegan provide a friendly, tail-wagging audience that helps build confidence in reluctant readers.

Each child signs up for a specific time slot between 3:00-4:15 p.m. Registration begins February 2 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Franklin Branch at 973 827-6555.  Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.
