The LC Readers meets the first Wednesday of selected months from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Group picks will focus on thought-provoking, enjoyable, contemporary literature with occasional discussion of classical literature and notable nonfiction as well.

For today's meeting the group will read and discuss In the Heart of the Sea: the Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by Nathaniel Philbrick. The book is available in several formats. You may be eligible for FREE career training. Joan Strehl from Employment & Training Services of Morris, Sussex and Warren will be here to discuss these options:

  • Grant Programs: Up to $4,000 for qualified individuals to attend occupational skills training
  • On-the-Job Training: Earn while you learn!
  • Tuition Waiver: Fill an open seat and finish a college degree
  • Online Learning: Take computer, business, IT or healthcare classes from your home.

If you are transitioning between careers, recently or long-term unemployed, or even returning to the workplace after a long absence, come to today's session a the Louise Childs Branch to learn the many ways Employment and Training Services can help develop the skills you need. Clinical psychologist and self-proclaimed Ripperologist, Dr. Mark Vogel presents the case of one of the most infamous serial murderers of all time, Jack the Ripper. Dr. Vogel has studied the case and visited the murder sites. He'll discuss the mysteries within the mystery: Was Jack the Ripper a doctor? Did he have an accomplice? Are the famous letters authentic? Why did he stop? How did he succeed in committing so many murders without being caught?

Join us for this fascinating inquiry into a compelling mystery. Due to the gruesome nature of the topic and the accompanying images in Dr. Vogel's presentation the program is open to adults ages 18 years and older only. Seating is limited. Please register beginning September 28.
