Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. The dogs provide an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  4:00, 4:15, 4:30 or 4:45. Registration begins October 14 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Louise Childs Branch at 973 770-1000. Register early, slots fill up quickly.


Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.

The First Presbyterian Church of Sparta will preview musical and dramatic selections from their production of Children of Eden scheduled for December. The show features children in animal costumes presenting scenes from the story of Noah's Ark. This free show will be fun and entertaining for the entire family. No registration required.

The American Girl Club meets the 2nd Saturday of each month at both the Louise Childs (from 10:00-11:00) and Main Library (from 2:00-3:00). Our November meetings will feature Rebecca and we'll be taking a look at New York City

The club geared to girls in grades 4-6 but all readers of the books are welcome

Explore the vast world of percussion instruments with Stephen and Donna Marie Chirco of Precious Gems Music. Kids in grades 4 and up are invited to discover the art and science of a variety of tuned and non-tuned percussion instruments. Explore the “Creation of Beautiful Harmony” while learning technique and the application of these FUN sounding instruments. This program is sure to be a HIT … and all are sure to succeed!  Be prepared to beat the drums, ring those bells and shake that cabasa. Audience participation is expected.

This program is recommended for kids in grades 4 and up but younger siblings will also be welcomed. Space is limited to 20. Please complete a separate registration form for each child participating beginning October 20th.

LEGO Club now meets at five locations! Each meeting provides an hour or more of LEGO building fun for kids in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Longer meetings also include a theme and book talk for LEGO creation inspiration. Building challenges are planned for older kids.

  • Dennis: 1st Monday of each month from 4:00-5:00 p.m. (November 3)
  • Franklin: NO MEETING IN NOVEMBER
  • Louise Childs: 3rd Tuesday of each month from 4:00-5:15 p.m. (today!)
  • Main Library: 3rd Saturday of each month from 10:00-11:30 a.m. (November 15)
  • Sussex-Wantage: 2nd Wednesday of each month from 5:00-6:30 p.m. (November 12)

Pack up the family and come to the Louise Childs Branch for an evening story time about November holidays. The stories will run about 30 minutes and be followed by a Bedtime Math idea that you can try here and at home to help your kids love math as much as they do playtime and dessert!

This evening story time is geared toward children in preschool through 3rd grade. Older and younger siblings are also welcome. Wearing your PJs is optional.smiley
