Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. The dogs provide an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  4:00, 4:15, 4:30 or 4:45. Registration begins April 8 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Louise Childs Branch at 973 770-1000. Register early, slots fill up quickly.


Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.

The American Girl Club is branching out and has added a meeting at the Louise Childs branch. It's geared to girls in grades 4-6 but all readers of the books are welcome. Today we'll be playing games and making a pennant to celebrate your favorite sports team.

Please register beginning April 21 so that we can gather enough supplies.

Calling all kids in Kindergarten through 8th grade, come join us at the Louise-Childs branch the third Tuesday of each month for a theme and book talk followed by an hour of LEGO building fun. All LEGOs provided. You can't take your creations home but you can hang out with your friends and build some amazing things using our wide range of LEGO pieces.

Space is limited. Registration is recommended. Walk-ins are welcome if space is available.

Think poetry is boring? NOT AT YOUR LIBRARY! Stop by the Louise Childs branch anytime between 9:30-12:00 to help us twist poems into different shapes, write pop song parodies, black out book pages and more!
