Want to add extra fun to your summer vacation and pick up a lifelong hobby? Local fishing enthusiast, Stephen Chirco, will share his love of fishing and helpful tips to start/improve your fishing game.

Steve will present a wide range of fishing poles, lures, reels, hooks, etc. and talk about fresh- versus salt-water fishing techniques.

Recommended for children ages 9 and older. Hook-up with us today and have a reel-y good time!

This summer's teen volunteers will spend some of their time as Book Buddies to our youngest patrons, Children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to stop in and share their love of reading with a Teen Volunteer Book Buddy. Your child will be improving his/her reading and listening skills while having whole lot of fun with the older youths in our community. 

Just drop in to the Louise Childs Branch anytime between 10:30 and noon - no registration required.

Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. The dogs provide an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  4:00, 4:15, 4:30 or 4:45. Registration begins July 14 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Louise Childs Branch at 973 770-1000. Register early, slots fill up quickly.


Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.

All the teachers at school appear to have superpowers. But do they? Join us on an epic adventure where, just like in science, things aren't always what they seem. Sciencetellers will launch things through the air, send them plummeting toward the ground, and even make things transform and disappear right before your very eyes. 

This is the closing program for all the heroic participants in this year's Summer Reading adventure and is a great opportunity to turn in final reading logs and collect prizes. Attention all builders in Kindergarten through 8th grade, LEGO Club at the Louise Childs branch is moving to a new day and will now meet the 4th Thursday of each month. Each meeting will have a theme, a building challenge and an hour of LEGO creating.

We've gathered a large and varied collection of our favorite plastic building bricks that can be put together in endless combinations. Work alone, bring a friend, or even make a new friend as you build, rearrange and even demolish all your LEGO creations. Registration preferred and begins August 13.
