Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. The dogs provide an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  4:00, 4:15, 4:30 or 4:45. Registration begins January 13 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Louise Childs Branch at 973 770-1000. Register early, slots fill up quickly.


Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.

Books, songs, fingerplays, and more for ages 6 months through 2 years. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. The program runsabout 30 minutes.

Registration begins January 15  and is limited to 30 participants.

Stories, songs and activities for children ages 3-6 and their siblings. Caregivers also encouraged to participate.

Registration is limited to 30 participants and begins January 15. Please complete a separate form for each child. Walk-ins are welcome only if space allows.

Let's make things do stuff!  We’ll provide all kinds of supplies and you bring your imagination.  How would you combine computer parts, duct tape, and wood pieces?  What could you make with paper, recycled items, and die-cuts? 

The Young Makers will meet at the Louise Childs Branch every Thursday from January 15 - February 19 (closed February 12). Work on one project for several weeks or try something new every time!

Geared toward kids in grades K-6. Please register beginning two weeks before each meeting date.

Kids in grades 4 and up are invited to the Louise Childs Branch to learn about the latest software and apps. Bring a friend and at the end of the meeting you'll have plenty of time to play Minecraft and other computer-based and video games. Bring your own laptop or tablet if possible but Library laptops can be provided as well.

Registration is preferred and begins January 26th.

The American Girl Clubs meets on the second Saturday of each month at both the Main and Louise Childs Branch libraries. The club is geared to girls in grades 4 – 6 but all readers of the books are welcome. This month's meeting will feature Kit and we'll be making Valentines.

Please register beginning January 31 so we can have enough supplies.

LEGO Club meets in four locations each month. All meetings include a theme/book talk followed by LEGO creating with special challenges planned for older kids.

LEGO Club is open to kids in K-8 but space is limited. Register here beginning February 3 for the meeting at Louise Childs Branch. Walk-ins will be welcome only if space allows.
