The American Classics Book Club is dedicated to reading and discussing the great novels that were underappreciated when you were forced to read them in high school. The club usually meets the 4th Tuesday of each month in the community room at Main Library. The club will not meet in December but will resume on January 27th with a discussion of Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton.

Local yoga instructor Jane Bielen Schear teaches a weekly yoga and meditation class for adults in the community room at Main Library. The yoga portion begins at 11:00 and runs for about 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Participants need not stay the entire time. You can attend the yoga portion alone, come at Noon for the meditation or stay for the whole class.

This is a free program. No previous experience is necessary. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

No registration is required, but make sure you exchange contact information with Jane the first time you attend to be contacted about any scheduling changes. The group meets every Saturday except the third Saturday of the month.

The R. E. A. D.  (or Reading Excites Average Days) Book Club started in the summer and wants to continue!  For ages 8 – 11 only.  See the "KIDS" page of our website for book titles.

Meets the fourth Saturday of each month. Registration begins December 13.

Let's make things do stuff!  We’ll provide all kinds of supplies and you bring your imagination.  How could you combine computer parts, duct tape, and wood pieces?  What could you make with paper, recycled items, and die-cuts?  Work on one project for several weeks or pick a different project each week.    For kids in grades K - 6. (with LEGO Club)  Please register two weeks before each date.

Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to join in today as we watch the movie based on James Dashner's great book, Maze Runner. Then come back on January 26 to discuss the movie versus the book. If you haven't read the book you can request it from our catalog by clicking here.

Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to Flounder, a beautiful and patient Newfoundland therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. Flounder provides an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. Flounder never interrupts or criticizes!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot: 6:30, 6:45, 7:00 or 7:15. Registration begins December 29 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Main Library at 973 948-3660. Register early, slots fill up quickly. Please arrive on time with a couple of books to read or early enough to pick out some library books.

Flounder is a brown Newfoundland much like the dog pictured above.
