Thanks to a generous donation, we have a number of great board games to play:

  • Othello
  • Checkers, chess, Chinese checkers, Dominoes. . . and many, many more!

Feel free to bring your favorites that are not listed here, and bring along a friend or two as well. Be forewarned, you will have fun!

Has your child recently been diagnosed with autism or another developmental disability? Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Meaghan Bracchitta*, will be at the Sussex-Wantage Branch for three consecutive Saturdays (2/13-2/27) to help answer the thousands of questions you may now have.

  • 2/13 - Overview of autism and developmental disabilities as well as other common mental or psychological dual diagnoses. The fundamentals of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), the scientific and evidenced based treatment theory used for individuals with autism and developmental and/or intellectual disabilities, will also be discussed.
  • 2/20 - Learn how to be the best advocate for your child. What should a good therapist offer? What should a treatment plan and associated data look like?  What is the IEP (individualized education plan) process? This session will define important terms and what you and your child are legally entitled to as part of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • 2/27 - The hardest work is at home. What can you do to support your child and your family? Learn about helpful resources and local support groups for family members; including siblings, parents, and individuals with disabilities.

You may attend individual sessions or all three. Please register in advance as space is limited. Click below to register for Session 1.

*Meaghan Bracchitta is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with a Masters in Education in Curriculum and Instruction and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with 5 years experience working with children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Currently she is employed by The Arc of Bergen and Passaic counties in Hackensack, NJ, working with adults with autism, developmental disabilities, and mental health disorders.

Master Gardener and Native Plant Society member April Fisher will take us on a journey back in time to visit a few of our treasured American gardens and see what plants were grown by our founding gardeners. Thinking about trying some heirloom flowers and vegetables in your garden this year? Join us as we consider some marvelous possibilities.

Registration is preferred and begins February 11. A snow date has been scheduled for Thursday, March 3rd at 7 pm.

Get out of your chair and on to the dance floor. Join dance instructor David Cross* and learn the Waltz and East Coast Swing (jitterbug) in just four weeks. This is a class for beginners and it's totally free courtesy of the Friends of the Sussex-Wantage Library. So grab your partner, a friend, or come make new friends as you learn to move in time to the music.

Class will be held every Friday from February 26-March 18. Registering here signs you up for all four weeks. Space is limited so couples, please complete a separate form for each class participant. And don't forget your dancing shoes! Registration begins February 12.

*David Cross is an experienced dance instructor and even coached couples for SCCC's Dance with the Stars Foundation Ball for three years.
