Kids entering Kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a Teen Book Buddy! Fridays in July we'll be pairing readers with our teen volunteers to share their favorite stories. Reading aloud is a great way to instill confidence and improve reading skill. Since listening skills are equally important, our Teen Book Buddies are ready to do the reading themselves for children who prefer to listen and follow along.

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  10:00, 10:15, 10:30, 10:45, 11:00, or 11:15. Registration begins June 29 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Dorothy Henry Branch at 973 827-8095. Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.

Join us Fridays in July as we take a closer look at all the characteristics necessary to being a hero. This week: the ability to solve problems.

There will be a short book talk followed by games and activities for kids entering Kindergarten through third grade. Older and younger siblings are also welcome.

What should you do if you get lost in the woods? Stay put and wait to be found? Keep wandering? Climb a tree?

Jen Enberg from New Jersey Search and Rescue will talk to children about how to keep from getting lost, but if they do, the best strategies for being quickly found. She'll also bring an advanced trainee search and rescue dog for kids to meet.

This informative program is free for the whole family but space is limited by room size. Please complete a separate registration for each family member staying for the program. Registration begins July 20.

Lap Sit is for children ages 6 months through 2 years and their parents/caregivers. This session of Lap Sit will meet each Tuesday in August with stories and songs about the weather.

Children must be accompanied by a caregiver, and younger and older siblings are also welcome.

Space is limited to 20 participants. Registration is preferred but walk-ins will be welcome if space allows. Registration begins July 21. Please complete a separate form for each child.

Boomer is back for the summer and can't wait to hear your story!

Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to Boomer, a beautifully patient Golden Retriever and member of Therapy Dogs International with his human, Linda Justesen. 

Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. Boomer provides an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading.  You must sign up for a specific time slot: 2:00, 2:15, 2:30 or 2:45. Registration begins July 21 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Main Library at 973 948-3660. Register early, slots fill up quickly. Please arrive on time with a couple of books to read or early enough to pick out some library books.

 Warm up your math brain for school with Bedtime Math's Summer of Numbers program. This four-week program, for children entering grades K-5, presents math through creative, fun, hands-on activities.

Class will be held every Wednesday night in August. Space is limited to 20 and children are encouraged to register for all four weeks to get the full benefit. Registration is underway, please complete a separate form for each child participating.

This program will be held every Wednesday evening in July and August. Experience the majesty of hawks, falcons, owls and eagles up close and learn more about their lives and their place in our ecological system.

The Delaware Valley Raptor Center is a non-profit, federally licensed rehabilitation organization dedicated to caring for orphaned, ill and injured birds of prey so they can ultimately be returned to the wild. A representative from the DVRC will be on hand to talk about their work with these magnificent birds and the importance of treating raptors and their habitats with respect.

This is the closing program for all the heroic participants in this year's Summer Reading adventure and is a great opportunity to turn in final reading logs and collect prizes. However, space is limited by parking and room limitations. Please complete a separate registration form for each family member attending the program. Registration begins August 1.

All the teachers at school appear to have superpowers. But do they? Join us on an epic adventure where, just like in science, things aren't always what they seem. Sciencetellers will launch things through the air, send them plummeting toward the ground, and even make things transform and disappear right before your very eyes. 

This is the closing program for all the heroic participants in this year's Summer Reading adventure and is a great opportunity to turn in final reading logs and collect prizes. Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to Boomer, a beautifully patient Golden Retriever and member of Therapy Dogs International with his human, Linda Justesen. 

Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. Boomer provides an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading.  You must sign up for a specific time slot: 2:00, 2:15, 2:30 or 2:45. Registration begins August 4 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Main Library at 973 948-3660. Register early, slots fill up quickly. This program will be held every Wednesday evening in July and August. Children ages 5-10 are invited to Main Library the 2nd Tuesday of each month to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to Flounder, a beautiful and patient Newfoundland therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. Flounder provides an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. Flounder never interrupts or criticizes!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot: 6:30, 6:45, 7:00 or 7:15. Registration begins two weeks before each program date and is in person or over the phone by calling the Main Library at 973 948-3660.  Please arrive on time with a couple of books to read or early enough to pick out some library books.

Flounder is a brown Newfoundland much like the dog pictured above.
