Every month we will select a different cookbook to focus on, some by local authors. We will have volunteers prepare something from the cookbook. New members always welcome!

Family Night Summer Reading Kickoff with Ben Rudnick and Friends!

With countless kudos to their credit, including SEVEN Parents’ Choice Awards, the band considers its main focus to be providing a common ground where all family members can enjoy a shared musical experience.

Drawing on original songs and traditional material, the band seamlessly integrates classic Americana with their own unique sound. It’s kids, it’s families, it’s music… live music.

Join us on the Library Lawn for this fun event.  Ice Cream sundaes from Treadwells will be available for purchase starting at 6:00 and the show will begin at 6:30. Register for Summer Reading before or during the concert.

Join Gregory Maichack for an adult hands-on workshop, "Monet's Magic, Pastel Paint Monet's Wondrous Water Lilies,"  on Monday, July 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  The cost of this workshop is $30 per person, checks should be made out to the Friends of the Swampscott Public Library. With magic, merry mayhem, and magnificent props, the audience is taken on a trip throughout the mesozoic era. How do we know dinosaurs were here? What is a fossil? How are they made? This program is fun and informative for ages 5 & up. The show begins as Dinoman follows tracks to your stage—and ends by finding a number of life-size dinosaurs! Due to space considerations registration will be required for this program.  Registration will begin on July 2. Please use the on line registration form.

Frisbee Dogs!

Mike Piazza is a multiple world finalist and world record holder in K-9 Frisbee and the current #1 Professional K-9 frisbee performer in the world. His act is very youth and family friendly!  He  performs a variety of frisbee & other entertaining tricks with 4 of the most athletic Border Collies on the planet to entertain audiences of all ages.  Mike's show includes lots of audience participation.  No registration is required for this program.

"Make way for ducklings!"

Children ages 2 & up are invited to a special story time program about ducks. Listen to several stories and sing some songs. After the program we will have a special hunt around the library for rubber duckies. In order to make it fair for all each child will be limited to collecting no more than 5 ducks.

No registration is needed for this program.

  Chickens Around the World

The program features chickens from around the world like England, Spain, South America , France, and others that lay different color eggs. Children will learn about the history and unique characteristics of the different breeds and basic animal husbandry skills. Presented by Lindsay Sprague of Winterberry Farm in New York. The educational program is geared for children ages 5 and up and not for toddlers.

     All children attending this program must be accompanied by a parent or other adult who will sit on the floor with the child and participate in the activities.  No registration is needed.

Fairy houseFairy House Make & Take Craft

Join storyteller and artist Mary Jo Maichack for this magical program. All supplies (natural things like pine cones, twigs, acorns, moss, etc.) provided so all can make and take fairy houses in containers. Mary Jo tells a fairy tale, poem, and tells a bit about fairy lore. The program is for children ages 6 & up (there are many small pieces not suitable for younger children). Registration is required for this program as space is limited.  Registration begins on July 30.
