This popular program is coming back with a new dog and owner. Welcome Karen Jones and her dog Kasha, a miniature American Eskimo dog. There will be four 15-minuted slots for reading. Registration is required for this program and will begin on February 14.

Why read to a dog?
Animals are ideal reading companions because they:
* listen attentively                                              * do not judge, laugh or criticize
* allow children to proceed at their own pace    * are less intimidating than peers

When a dog is "listening" fear of failure is removed allowing a child to learn more effectively. The dog's handler is a skilled facilitator who provides subtle support without creating performance pressure in the child.

Rising from a childhood of poverty, Samuel Langhorne Clemens grew up to become Mark Twain, one of America’s best known and best loved authors. Considered to be one of the greatest American writers, he was a critic of human nature and used humor to attack hypocrisy, greed and racism.  He wrote over thirty books, penned one of the most memorable characters in literature, and was also a world traveler - Fiji, New Zealand, and Egypt being just a few of the many places he’d visited.

On Thursday, March 21st at 7 pm, Izzi Abrams will explore how Twain’s life, travels, and beliefs were reflected in his writing, and how other writers have been influenced by him. Join us for this amazing lecture. Registration for this event will begin on Monday, March 4th. Please register here or from our website or call 781-596-8867.

Come to the library on Saturday, March 23rd at 1 pm to uncover the science of happiness.  Lizzie Linn Casanave, professor of philosophy at NECC, will explain his revolutionary concept.   Many of us think that we will be happier as a result of something- such as finding a new job, finishing a project, losing 10 pounds, etc. Psychologists and neurologists, however, are now realizing that happiness can be more readily achieved through changing the way we think.  Registration for this program begins on Monday, March 11th.
