How can you move forward, and learn to feel comfortable, while building a better career? This lecture will discuss the ways in which you can achieve your networking goals while building confidence. You will have to move a bit outside your comfort zone to get what you want in life, but that is the cost of personal growth. Led by Anne Crawford, a certified career transition coach.

    Contact: Rachel Steele   978-640-4490 x 203   rsteele@tewksburypl.org

The library's Evening Book Group is reading The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown this January.  Books and discussion guides will be available at the Front Desk by the end of December. New readers are always welcome!

About the Book: The story of the American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times—the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant. Drawing on the boys’ own journals and vivid memories of a once-in-a-lifetime shared dream, Brown has created an unforgettable portrait of an era, a celebration of a remarkable achievement, and a chronicle of one extraordinary young man’s personal quest.

The library's Evening Book Group is reading The Boston Girl by Anita Diamant this February.  Books and discussion guides will be available at the Front Desk by the end of January. New readers are always welcome!

About the Book: Addie Baum is The Boston Girl, born in 1900 to immigrant parents who were unprepared for and suspicious of America and its effect on their three daughters.  Growing up in the North End, then a teeming multicultural neighborhood, Addie’s intelligence and curiosity take her to a world her parents can’t imagine—a world of short skirts, movies, celebrity culture, and new opportunities for women. Addie wants to finish high school and dreams of going to college. She wants a career and to find true love. Written with the same attention to historical detail and emotional resonance that made Anita Diamant’s previous novels bestsellers, The Boston Girl is a moving portrait of one woman’s complicated life in twentieth century America, and a fascinating look at a generation of women finding their places in a changing world.

About the Book:

This unexpected sequel to Moyes's Me Before You reveals what happened to Louisa Clark after that book's heart-wrenching finale. Jojo Moyes gives us two families, as real as our own, whose joys and sorrows will touch you deeply, and where both changes and surprises await. After You is quintessential Jojo Moyes—a novel that will make you laugh, cry, and rejoice at being back in the world she creates. Here she does what few novelists can do—revisits beloved characters and takes them to places neither they nor we ever expected.

The library's Evening Book Group is reading Kitchens of the Great Midwest by Jojo Moyes this month.  Books and discussion guides will be available at the Front Desk by the end of April. New readers are always welcome!

About the Book:

The story of a young woman with a once-in-a-generation palate who becomes the iconic chef behind the country’s most coveted dinner reservation. When Lars Thorvald’s wife, Cynthia, falls in love with wine—and a dashing sommelier—he’s left to raise their baby, Eva, on his own. He’s determined to pass on his love of food to his daughter—starting with pureed pork shoulder. As Eva grows, she finds her solace and salvation in the flavors of her native Minnesota. From Scandinavian lutefisk to hydroponic chocolate habaneros, each ingredient represents one part of Eva’s journey as she becomes the star chef behind a legendary and secretive pop-up supper club, culminating in an opulent and emotional feast that’s a testament to her spirit and resilience.
