anim_paw 7:00 PM  -  8:45 PM Living with Coyotes with John Maguaranis Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend
    Contact: Robert Hayes   978-640-4490 x 205   rhayes@mvlc.org

Did you know we have coyotes in Wilmington and Tewksbury?  Have you seen one?  Did you wonder what you should do?  Join John Maguaranis, Massachusetts Representative for Project Coyote, to learn about coyotes, including: natural behavior, habits, identification, pet and human safety, myths and facts, hazing, and origin and history.  Learn more about these amazing animals and get tips on how to co-exist peacefully.  You'll also see some great photography!

John Maguaranis served as a United States Army veterinary technician for more than 25 years, caring for a wide range of animals, from bald eagles to bison.  Upon retiring from the army and following his love for animals, John became an Animal Control Officer for Belmont, where he has been able to put his veterinary skills to work for wildlife.  John quickly recognized the unfair press regarding coyotes and started a campaign to educate the community about why coyotes matter ecologically and why they deserve respect and appreciation.  John has since provided over 100 presentations about living with coyotes and has been requested by the National Park Service, the Appalachian Trail Association, and the Boston Park Rangers.  His ability to distill information from scientists and researchers, while presenting it in a way that is meaningful and memorable, has earned him recognition throughout the Northeast.

This presentation is FREE and OPEN TO ALL.  No registration required.  The program was organized by Mark Holleran, founder of Wildlife of Wilmington, MA.

Join author Paul Marion as he discusses his new book, Mill Power: The Origin and Impact of Lowell National Historical Park, an insider's account of the creative, bold community-driven process to establish one of Lowell's treasures.  The park's creation was an integral piece of an urban revival strategy that has made Lowell the subject of scores of newspaper articles, magazine profiles, TV and radio reports, scholarly papers, and book chapters.  Historic Preservation magazine, for example, has hailed the park as "the premier rehabilitation model for gritty cities worldwide."  Learn about the people who dreamed, wrote, designed, pushed, and cheered a new national park into existence.  Paul, Executive Director of Community Relations at U-Mass Lowell, served as an administrator with the Lowell Historic Preservation Commission, helping to develop the programs and properties of the Lowell National Historical Park.  He's also the co-founder of the Lowell Folk Festival and Lowell Heritage Partnership.  Light refreshments provided.  Q&A and book signing after the talk.  Limited to 50 seats.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
