New! The library is starting a book club just for teens and tweens in Grades 6 & 7. If you're looking for a more informal book club, Bookkeepers, our teen books club for ages 12-17, is always welcoming new members! Please check the online calendar for meeting dates. Vermont’s PuppeTree Inc. touring production of THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW with 150 shadow puppets is a special show for Kindergarten -  8th Grade students and their families. This beautiful sepia toned production runs 44 minutes narrated in Washington Irving’s exact words. The PuppeTree Inc. is listed on the New England Foundation for the Arts Teaching Artist Roster and has performed this show to thousands of people of all ages from New Jersey to Maine for the last 12 years. By the way, with all of our unique, brightly colored, articulated puppets and great background music, the show is just plain FUN!

Event is part of the 15 year celebration. Celebrating 15 years in our current building! 140 years of community connections~15 years through these doors.

We'll be talking about the wacky and hilarious  " Mr. Tony is full of Baloney" by Gutman. It is part of the popular "My Wierd School" series. Come for Book Club FUN!!!

The kids picked for the following book club (in January) the "I Survived..." series by Lauren Tarshis. Kids can read any one of them, and then we'll compare. There's "I survived the sinking of the Titanic, 1912", "I survived Hurricane Katrina, 2005" and 7 others to choose from.

Details: We all read the same book or series, then chat about it. We always do an activity or game related to the book, and often get a bit silly! Snacks provided.  Copies available from the Children's room staff.  The club meets one Tuesday afternoon a month at 3:45. Open to all in gr. 2 and 3 who have read part of the book, or had it read to them.

Children and young adults with special needs and disabilities need parents and guardians who are effective advocates. The inclusion of your child in school and the community is his/her right under IDEA, ADA and MA Special Education Laws. This workshop will provide an overview of how parents/guardians can obtain the skills for effective advocacy. Disability rights to access go well beyond the IEP and the school system and they can be used to allow inclusion in the community, from town programs to private organizations.

Supporting children with special needs at home and in the community can be extremely challenging for families. Unlike the school environment, everyday life doesn’t necessarily include structure, predictability and a knowledgeable/supportive community. Katy Shamitz, Founder & Director of Skills for Living, will be leading this workshop to provide useful strategies and resources for parents/guardians on ways to support their special needs child at home and in the community. Topics include successful strategies for activities of daily living, including building routines in the home, using visual supports and social stories, strategies for success in community outings, including teaching play/social skills and safety awareness.

Teens readers ages 13-17 can join the library's Book & Movie Club. We meet monthly to discuss our favorite books, movies, and other media in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. We also have snacks and select a movie to watch that has been adapted from a teen book. No registration required, but please note that we often watch movies rated PG-13.
