    Kick-off with Kavi!  The kick-off to the Children's Summer Reading program is today at 11:00 a.m.!!! "Celebration" is the theme, as Christopher "Kavi" Carbone brings his guitar to entertain children with stories and songs.  Kavi is a well-known performer and hails from Rhode Island.

Start their summer with fun!  Music is a great way to build brain connections that support math and reading skills. 
    For ages 4 and up  No registration needed.Limited to first 100 children.Library programs are always free.

    This program is sponsored in part by Braintree Cultural Council, a local agency, which is funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.  Part of "Every Hero has a Story" Summer Reading Program 2015 for Children, June 29 - August 22.

 Come make a fabric Superhero Cape to wear and take home and use to dress up as a superhero all summer long. Limited to the first 30 who arrive (no sign-ups)  For ages 4-5.

You can save the Superhero Cape to bring to the Superhero Photo-Op (Aug. 12 and 13),  and your family can take a picture of you flying through the air, leaping tall buildings. (Those who don't make their own cape can use ours during the Photo-Op)

    Sparky's Puppets performs for ages 4 up with colorful puppets, humor and audience participation..The show is a lively collection of tales about some surprising heroes. You never know who will save the day - it's not always the biggest or strongest.

 Make Superhero Masks and Superhero Wrist Cuffs to wear and take home and use to dress up as a superhero all summer long.  For ages 3 - 7.

You can bring your Superhero Mask and Wrist Cuffs  to the Superhero Photo-Op (Aug. 12 and 13),  and your family can take a picture of you flying through the air over tall buildings, lifting huge weights. (Those who don't bring their own mask or cuffs can use ours during the Photo-Op)

Older children can build with the white blocks that have architectural features.  All ages will enjoy creating and building. Working with shapes, fitting them together strengthens their brain for science and math. Stop by anytime 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.  For children age 2 - 6. Held in the Children's Room. Blocks will be available in the play area.  Block Play will be held Fridays July 31,August 14, 21.  Block Play alternates with "Fun Friday" / simple crafts through the summer.

Purple Cow Alphabet and Reading Fun is  for children age 4 - 7 or their parents. Come meet the Purple Cow and learn fun songs about the letters of the alphabet, their sounds and other early reading skills. Nicole DeBassio makes reading and pre-reading skills fun. Children will enjoy the session, and parents will learn tips and songs to use at home with their 4 - 7 year olds. Bring your camera to have your picture taken with Nicole's Purple Cow.

Presenter Nicole DeBassio is an expert in the Wilson Reading System. She has created songs to make the learning process fun and easy.. No sign-ups needed.

FIRETRUCK FANS will enoy seeing the Firetruck that will be outside the library from 10 am to noon today. The Braintree Fire Dept is very kindly allowing children to view one of their cool trucks!

Firefighters are local heroes that help the people in Braintree every day. We all support their work in our community. For children of all ages.

   We'll be talking about the the fun adventures of Eugene and his pretend character "Captain Awesome".  The "Captain Awesome"   series is by Stan Kirby. Ahead, read the first one in the series - "Captain Awesome to the Rescue" or any in the series. They're about Eugene who LOVES comic books and Superheroes. The series is written at roughly a third grade level. Come for Book Club FUN!!!

Today, we may draw/create our own Superhero, maybe make our own Superhero Mask, and  probably play a Superhero game.

Details: We all read the same book or series, then chat about it. We always do an activity or game related to the book, and often get a bit silly! Snacks provided.  Copies available from the Children's room staff.  The club meets one Tuesday afternoon a month at 3:45. Open to all in gr. 2 and 3 who have read at least part of the book, or listened to it.

      The Superhero books we'll be chatting about this month  is "The Lunch Lady" series by Jarrett Kroscoczka. They're comic books, also called "graphic novels". Can you believe it is the Lunch Lady that saves the day!?!  To prepare,  read any of the series ahead of time.  This author/artist Jarrett Kroscoczka created all the art work for this year's Summer Reading Program.

    We have 4 sheets of fun and facts to try together, and take home. We may try to create our own superhero character or write our own comic strip. We will also play a Superhero game.

      This is a FUN Book Club for kids in grade 4 and 5!  We chat about the book and always do an activity related to the book. We have snacks and fun, and usually play a game!  You can get a copy of the book from staff or reserve a copy from Old Colony Library Network.If you don't have time to finish it, come to Book Club anyway.  All kids in grades 4 and 5 are welcome. The kids choose the books to read next.  We meet one Thursday evening a month, and talk about a different book each month. Held in Children's Room.

Great for any kids entering or finishing gr. 4 or 5.
