Some Kind of Happiness by Claire Legrand

Finley’s only retreat is the Everwood, a forest kingdom that exists in the pages of her notebook, until she discovers the endless woods behind her grandparents’ house and realizes the Everwood is real and holds more mysteries than she had ever imagined. With the help of her cousins, Finley sets out on a mission to save the dying Everwood and uncover its secrets. As the mysteries pile up and the frightening sadness inside her grows, Finley realizes that if she wants to save the Everwood, she will first have to save herself. Reality and fantasy collide in this heartfelt and enigmatic novel.

Wolf Hollow by Lauren Wolk

Growing up in the shadows cast by two world wars, Annabelle has lived a mostly quiet, steady life in her small Pennsylvania town until the day a new student, Betty Glengarry, walks into her class. Betty quickly reveals herself to be cruel and manipulative, and while her bullying seems isolated at first, things quickly escalate, and reclusive World War I veteran Toby becomes a target of her attacks. While others have always seen Toby’s strangeness, Annabelle knows only kindness. She will soon need to find the courage to stand as a lone voice of justice as tensions mount.

We are excited to have the Newbery award-winning author, Lauren Wolk, visit us virtually via Skype! She will be joining us after the potluck dinner. Bring a dish to share. Beverages and dessert provided. For children in grades 5-8 and their parents. Please register and pick up a book at the Information Desk.

The nonfiction book discussion group meets every other month (the second Monday at 7:00) to discuss a thought-provoking nonfiction book about about history, politics, contemporary issues, etc.

The Wright Brothers by David McCullough

In this “enjoyable, fast-paced tale” (The Economist), master historian David McCullough “shows as never before how two Ohio boys from a remarkable family taught the world to fly” (The Washington Post)and “captures the marvel of what the Wrights accomplished” (The Wall Street Journal). He draws on the extensive Wright family papers to profile not only the brothers but their sister, Katharine, without whom things might well have gone differently for them. Essential reading, this is “a story of timeless importance, told with uncommon empathy and fluency…about what might be the most astonishing feat mankind has ever accomplished…The Wright Brothers soars” (The New York Times Book Review).

Please register at the Information Desk and pick up a copy of the book (cost $5.00).
