Our 2nd Annual Mitten Tree Day is here! Join us for stories, craft, and a brief ceremony to welcome back our Mitten Tree.

What is the Mitten Tree?

The Mitten Tree is a charitable effort the Library began in 2015. Anyone who wishes to contribute is encouraged to bring in an item of warm clothing or winter gear (hat, scarf, etc.) to be donated to local residents in need. In return for each donation, a pair of mitten ornaments can be decorated and hung on the tree. The tree will be up through the holiday season, so come by and visit!

Chef Gale Gand is a nationally acclaimed pastry chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, television personality, teacher, entrepreneur, and mother. Chef Gand has been recognized as Outstanding Pastry Chef of the Year by The James Beard Foundation and by Bon Appetite magazine and has been inducted into the Chicago Chefs Hall of Fame. For 8 years, Gale hosted the Food Network series “Sweet Dreams,” the first nationally televised all-dessert show anywhere.

Chef Gand will be offering a cooking demonstration of holiday dessert ideas. Join us for this entertaining presentation. Chef Gand will also be selling copies of her books and signing them for attendees. Visit Chef Gand's website for more information about her:

The Friends of the Villa Park Library will hold their 2nd Annual Barnes & Noble Friends fundraiser at Barnes & Noble located at 297 Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook from 10am-7:30pm on Sunday, December 11, 2016. Come out and shop for items on your holiday list and support the Friends! As a bonus, on this day, the Friends will be wrapping gifts purchased from Barnes & Noble at no charge.

Family Storytime will be held at 1pm and 3pm on this date at Barnes & Noble. Cupcake decorating* will be held from 1-3:30pm. *Please note: cupcakes are $2.00 each and can be purchased at Barnes & Noble.

will each select one or two preexisting poems that they have authored.
Bring ten copies of each poem to share with others. Each poet will

are looking for peer review and suggestions.

Registration is REQUIRED for this event. There will be exactly 25 cookies donated by Whole Foods, which means that we have a limit of 25 kids maximum. Please use the registration form to indicate how many children will be decorating cookies so that we can accommodate as many as possible. Thanks!

Kick-start the New Year with Winter Reading! Stop in to the Library and sign up starting on Tuesday, January 3. Our Adult and Youth programs will be offering a variety of excitement for all ages. We are proud to once again partner with Chicago Wolves Hockey for our Youth program, Read to Succeed, and our Adult program, Master the Art of Reading, will also include great incentives and opportunities. Both are easy, fun, and open to everyone!
