Workshop: Ministry and Liturgy for Same-Gender-Loving Couples-Newton Centre, MA
| |
Location: Andover Newton Theological School, 210 Herrick Road, Newton Centre, MA
Ministry and Liturgy for Same-Gender-Loving Couples - While debate continues in some faith communities as to the appropriateness or permissibility of religious blessing of same-sex couples' unions, many faith communities have for years embraced the love of all couples who understand themselves to be called to a spiritual union. Few ministers, however, have had the opportunity to learn about providing pastoral support and inspirational liturgy for same-sex couples. Without such training, they borrow from methods they learned for opposite-sex couples, sometimes in ways that are effective, and sometimes in ways that undercut the significant obstacles same-sex couples continue to face. In this day-long workshop participants will be introduced to methods and resources that will enable them to minster effectively and faithfully with same-sex couples as they consider and prepare for marriage or the blessing of their union.
Registration Fee: $75. Snacks and lunch included.

The social hour will start at 5:30 p.m., with the dinner starting at 6 p.m. The Citizen of the Year presentation and retirement party is expected to start around 7:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The program will include a light roast/toast award presentation and musical performances by Bob Amos and the Pumpkin Hill Singers. Guests need not attend the dinner to attend the event upstairs.
Friends and colleagues are encouraged to send congratulatory cards to the chamber so they can be included in a memory book for the Rev. Sprout. The address of the chamber is 2000 Memorial Drive-Ste. 11, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819. People may also drop by cards at the chamber’s Green Mountain Mall office.
