Autism is one of a few Pervasive Developmental Disorders. We believe that autism is not a defect nor does it stem from a lack of brain power, but rather the person is overwhelmed by more brain power than he can manage in the chaos of un-orientation. The Davis Autism Approach Program starts with the challenge of helping the individual to complete that stage of development that was interrupted between birth and age three; he then learns through an organized series of conceptual lessons, over the course of weeks, what the neurotypical toddler assimilated in a matter of years. Come and learn more about the Davis Autism Approach, a gentle, non-invasive program that gives the autistic individual  the tools to participate fully in life. Sponsored by Creative Learning Solutions.

Read to a DOG? Not just any dog....

Certified Therapy Pets are a wonderful way to encourage reluctant readers and children having difficulties with reading to become more confident in their ability to read. The use of Therapy Pets in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes has been shown to decrease anxiety, lower blood pressure and promote relaxation; the same premise applies to children with reading difficulties.

For those children who cannot yet read on their own, parents & caregivers are invited to read with their children. In order to guarantee your spot, you must register for each session.

Registered children should arrive during the advertised time span and will read to the dog of their choice for approximately 15-20 mins.

Check our online calendar for upcoming dates & times.

This months selection is The Last of the Doughboys by Richard Rubin.

In 2003, 85 years after the armistice, Rubin managed to find dozens of American veterans of World War I, aged 101 to 113, and interview them. All are gone now. They were the final survivors of the millions who made up the American Expeditionary Forces. Self-reliant, humble, and stoic, they kept their stories to themselves for a lifetime, then shared them at the last possible moment, so that they, and the World War they won, might at last be remembered.

Copies are available at the Main Desk. Newcomers always welcome.

misc_none 7:30 PM  -  9:00 PM Acoustic Cafe presents Off the Cuff Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

Off The Cuff has been delighting audiences across southern New Hampshire and sorrounding areas for over a decade. Incorporating elements of jazz, swing, blues, bluegrass, rock, folk and world music styles, Off The Cuff infuses its own special blend of vocal and instrumental harmony into every song to reinvent it as something new and personal. Once this is done, the song is “Cuffed” – given that Off The Cuff touch.

Audiences love this music! Whether an original tune or an old standard, a pop tune or a nugget by some little known songwriter, the music touches a familiar chord in everyone, whether they grew up dancing to the big bands or to rock bands. It is music that each generation has managed to share; a part of the American musical soul. The music is upbeat, energetic and fun, and The Cuffers have a great time playing and interacting with the audience.

In October, 2008 Off The Cuff released its first CD, “Cuffed… At Last!” Recorded live at the Caleidh House in Westmoreland, NH, the CD contains 14 songs covering a broad range of styles that highlight the diversity and variety of an Off The Cuff performance.

Doors Open @ 7 PM - Performance @ 7:30PM - Admission is Free!

The Acoustic Café is a library-sponsored program showcasing regional acoustic musicians. Open to the public, it is held the 3rd Saturday from October through April in a smoke-free intimate

Our selection this month is Mayflower: a Story of Courage, Community and War by Nathaniel Philbrick.

From the perilous ocean crossing to the shared bounty of the first Thanksgiving, the Pilgrim settlement of New England has become enshrined as our most sacred national myth. Yet, as bestselling author Nathaniel Philbrick reveals in his spellbinding new book, the true story of the Pilgrims is much more than the well-known tale of piety and sacrifice; it is a fifty-five-year epic that is at once tragic, heroic, exhilarating, and profound.                         Publisher Description

NOTE: This is the last PAWS session until sachool begins again in the fall.

Dan Szczesny is a long-time journalist and author living in New Hampshire.

The Adventures of Buffalo and Tough Cookie is an exploration of one of New Hampshire’s least known mountain lists, the 52 With a View. It’s a hiking story unlike any other, as Dan takes on the task of turning a determined, urban elementary child into an experienced back-woods hiker, and in the process finds that sometimes the most important lessons are the one’s that she teaches him.

Through snow, storms, slugs and long miles over the state’s beautiful and challenging terrain, The Adventures of Buffalo and Tough Cookie is a journey and meditation on the transformative power of friendship, commitment and the meaning of family.

Are you looking for other yarn addicts? Do your Monday nights seem dull? Look no further! Join us for a drop-in stitch-fest on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month between 6:30-8:30pm. Don't have a project in mind? Can't seem to finish that scarf for Grandma? Or are you a complete beginner with an itch to stitch? Bring your project in & be inspired; if you're a beginner, your local craft store can help you select a project & requisite supplies. There will be no formal instruction but 'knitwits' are a helpful bunch and love indoctrinating the uninitiated into the cult of knitting. Tea, helpful company & oodles of knitting books will be served.

Free Tax help will be available at the Wadleigh Library from February 2nd to April 14th. The hours will be the same each week:

Tuesdays - 9:30am to 2:00pm
Thursdays - 3:30pm-6:30pm

The Wadleigh Library is an official Tax Form Repository. We will provide forms as we receive them from the federal and state government.

Since 1968, AARP Tax-Aide volunteers have helped nearly 50 million low- to middle-income taxpayers, many of whom are aged 60 or older. Tax-Aide volunteers (IRS Certified) are trained to assist with filing the 1040 Form and the more standard of the schedules, including Schedules A and B. Electronic filing (e-filing) is offered at the Wadleigh Memorial Library site, with no charge to the taxpayer. E-filing ensures more accurate tax returns and faster processing of tax refunds.

Free Tax help will be available at the Wadleigh Library from February 2nd to April 14th. The hours will be the same each week:

Tuesdays - 9:30am to 2:00pm
Thursdays - 3:30pm-6:30pm

Appointments are not required.
