Santa Claus in Baghdad
| |
Join us for a film screening of Santa Claus in Baghdad, produced by award-winning director Raouf Zaki of Framingham. Zaki, inspired by a book borrowed from the Wayland Library, Figs and Fate: stories about growing up in the Arab World by author Elsa Marston, tells the story of a sixteen-year old Iraqi girl and her family, who despite their hardships and sacrifices, find a way to give to others in a world of despair. In turn, they find the will to survive despite the daunting challenges they face. Shot almost entirely in Massachusetts, the film turned Boston-area locations into Baghdad.
Zaki’s first film, Just Your Average Arab, won Best Film at the 2006 Boston Comedy and Film Festival. The second edition of Marston’s book has been renamed Santa Claus in Baghdad, in recognition of Zaki’s film.
Read what the Boston Globe had to say about this film.
There will be a Q & A following the film.
On Tuesday, December 9, RA Vision Productions will also offer a free online screening of Santa Claus in Baghdad for educators and schools in the United States.
